Part of my very earliest memories. The old family homestead and business was just up Powell Blvd from there. My grandparents would take us there after Sunday mass. I'd bet money the grease in the fryers hasn't been changed out since then. Also a great night place to sober up before going home when I was in HS. The Hot Cake House is a genuine Portland legend that just won't die......

Haven't been there in 20 years. Used to swing by there around 2:30am on weekends after a night at the clubs!

Young people loved it for a hangout after games on Friday nights. Open 24hrs and free refills on coffee and soda, and great snacks for a reasonable price.

My daughters basketball team would go there after games all the time. They'd go there to study as well.

It was just run into the ground.
Spent many a Friday night in HS after playing a football game hanging around Round Table Pizza and/or Sharis while waiting for a party to develop somewhere or just hanging out with friends. God bless all those waiters and waitresses that had to deal with the kids at these all night establishments.

They had a hell of a run for any franchise, let alone a restaurant chain..those are only as good as the cook turnover crapshoot allows them to be as they never pay competitive wages for talented chefs...sometimes they get lucky and find talent but it's not a guarantee. I never went to the Shari's in Eugene but I've had their pies at gatherings and the ones I tried were pretty good.

Damn. I was hoping they'd put one in Oregon City now that the two Sheri's we had are closed... I always liked Denny's better than Shari's.
It was always hit or miss on Denny's depending on which one. We used to hit the one on W. Burnside after school dances etc. It was good when stoned but just so so otherwise.

They have the best reasonably priced double bacon cheeseburger. Canby is a good location.

And the chicken fried steak is decent too

Private equity strikes again.

Holy shit, I didn't know this...

Denny's was founded by Harold Butler and Richard Jezak, who opened a donut stand in 1953 called Danny's Donuts. The chain grew and split into Denny's coffee shops and Winchell's Donut Houses.

Does A.C. Green still own all the Denny's in Portland?

Yea I'm pretty sure the one she loved by my parents house on Mill Plain and Cheklov is still open. We took my in-laws to the one on Sandy when they visited 5 years and the FiL loved it!

I know a few ELMER’S closed about 15 years ago around town. Didn’t realize there were any more open.
My family visits the one near Mall 205 regularly. I believe the one near 102nd/Sandy is still open. And there is now one at the Sheraton on 181st right off the freeway (where "Francis Xavier's" used to be).

But those are all east of 82nd, so those basically don't exist in your world.
