All-Star Game Starters

Need to leave the fans out of it. They are and have always made a mess out of it. Zaza Pachulia almost started a few years back.

No. Leave the players and media out of it. Let the fans have fun.
Which is exactly why when fans mention how many times a player has been an allstar, it means nothing to me. I’m ok if they want to send the most exciting players to watch, but if you want the BEST players or most DESERVING, the fans need to be kept away.

You were just posting about how fucked up the players' voting was this year. 2 votes for Bronny to start?!? And somehow you reach the conclusion that it's the fans who are the problem?!?

Fans don't get a say in MVP, MIP, All League, etc. The one thing the fans get a say in is the All-Star game.

I don't like a relatively handful of "media" having a 25 percent vote. Remember that clown who voted for Bargnani because he played for his local Toronto team for ROY instead of Brandon Roy? Bargnani?

The NBA will never take the fans out of the All Star vote. The whole purpose of the All Star game is supposed to be to entertain the fans. And fan voting is a huge marketing ploy.

I'm imagining Deni bull rushing his way to the basket through the half-ass all star game defense. He could easily score 50 if he wanted and the coach let him.

Then make it JUST the fans.

Yeah, they could give the fans ten of the spots again, the coaches would still have a say.

The all star game should be for the fans. I don't really care if the players have a say and the media can do what they do at the end of the season with the awards.

If the league determines that the players deserve a say then let them split the reserve vote with the coaches.

If the fans had the ultimate say it would ultimately turn into complete anarchy. We would be seeing Luka Garza in the All-Star game. Maybe not year one, but eventually if people knew they had the ultimate say, they would troll the All-Star game. Guaranteed.

Should fans be able to vote for the dunk contest and 3pt shootout contestants?

The dunk contest has been stale for over a decade now. All-Star weekend needs some changes for sure. It’s been downhill since they got rid of that event with WNBA-NBA-Retired NBA. They need to bring something like that back.

Run a 1v1 or 2v2 tournament or something.

Something new and not the same old photo shoot.

So?

The All-Star game has sucked for years now. If that's what fans want, then let them have it.

Thats not going to create a better product, it’s going to create a worse version of the same thing.

Sign me up for Haliburton - Clarke - Reggie in a contest.

With the WNBA blowing up it’s time to bring that back.

Good idea. Sounds fun. I'm in!

When I was a little kid ABC had the NBA games on the weekends. (ABC was phenomenal for sports back then.) Got to watch some legends. Saw the famous Willis Reed coming back in injured game. Loved Earl the Pearl. Walt Frazier. Elgin Baylor. But I digress.

They did a one-on-one tournament. They showed one (taped) match-up during halftime of each game. (So much better than the talking heads we have now.) I loved it! Unfortunately, Geoff Petrie v. Gail Goodrich killed it. It was losers outs. Championship game. Shooting almost nothing but long jump shots, neither player could miss. Eventually Petrie won it. I guess maybe someone thought that was too boring, but that was the end of that.

I just read LeBron has backed Deni getting the All Star nod. Not sure how true it is with all the opinion stuff but you would think that would mean something.

True. But it will never happen. The NBA & its sponsors loves the fan engagement of the voting. And the NBA loves all the data they get from people having to set up an account to vote.

In my best grandpa Simpson voice…

“back in my day, we used to vote by filling out paper scantrons that were given out at games and later dropped off in ballot boxes throughout the concourse. And everyone was dancing to 2 Unlimited and reading NBA Inside Stuff. Of course, if you wanted to read about the NBA, you had to buy a copy of the magazine at a 7-11 or have it delivered to your house once a month. And don’t get me started on Ball Don’t Lie…”

They should remove players votes since they treat it like a joke.

I'm ok with fans voting for someone delusionally but this is as stupid as when the Toronto media voted for Bargani to be ROY over Dame. Should publicly publish media votes and remove any ridiculous ones.

The fans are making far better votes than the players.

The whole game is a fan exhibition and always has been - so fan votes are fine. Yao started over Shaq.

The only reason to have players/media with a vote is if they take it serious and to reduce some delusional fans sway. But instead it's the opposite and players vote is the biggest joke of them all. Jay Huff gets 11 votes?

Fans have always voted the starters until the last few years when now players/media have half the input. The players vote is a total joke.

When did the fans vote a Luka Garza level player in to start? I don't recall that ever happing. Biggest upsets I recall is a young Yao and Kobe starting which wasn't that bad.

Fans have never had any vote for the all star reserves.
