One issue I see with media and player votes, and this probably pertains more to the media with end of season awards versus all star games, but there's a lot of players with some very large bonuses tied to getting awards and all star appearances. Think about the times we've seen players clap back at Jason Quick in Portland. I don't mean to call him out specifically, but there's someone like that in every market, and some of them might have votes How do we know they won't vindictively not vote for a guy, potentially costing them hundreds of thousands of dollars?
The league clearly worries about things like someone like Zaza getting voted in, and I'm sure a lot of it comes from fear of like a reddit style(or 4chan) backing of some weird scrub who ends up starting but...so what? It's a fan event. Most admit it's already shit. If it's supposed to be the best of the best, why vote? Just take the top say 15 scorers, and top 5 rebounders or some shit and call it a day.
