Only because the refs fucked SAC out of one in 2002.

So, knowing what you know, would you pass on all of Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, John Stockton, Patrick Ewing, Reggie Miller, Dominique Wilkins and Elgin Baylor if they were available late in the first round of their respective drafts?

I've come around on Bell, but picking him at anything above 26 would be a travesty.

I still feel like 26 would be a reach, but one that I'd somewhat understand.

We have to get the best value possible out of this draft. I don't think Bell is the way to go. I do like Bolden more than him too.

So glad you're not part of our front office, scouting or coaching staffs. Anyone that would pass on the next Charles Barkley, Karl Malone, Patrick Ewing, Dominique Wilkins, etc. with the 26th pick in the draft has no business being anywhere around an NBA team.

We do need a big guy, but he seems a little mentally weak. I don't watch a lot of college ball, but he choked pretty badly. And it was just all not prioritizing effort.

I watched most of the Duck's games. Bell was a force. No doubt about it. He not only blocked a lot of shots but he made people miss just from his presence in the key. When you have the reputation as a shotblocker you make people second guess their release. Watching that clip is like watching the dunk vids of kids in High school and then thinking their going to be the next Lebron. It doesn't tell the whole story.

How many 6'8" shot blockers are there in the league? Serious question.

Define shot blocker. Bell has enough length to be one. His wingspan is more important than his height. That's a skill that usually transfers at the next level.

As mentioned, Jordan Bell is taller/longer than Ben Wallace and Draymond Green. The player he most closely resembles in terms of measurements and athleticism is Josh Smith and Smith was top 3 in the league in BLKs four times back in his ATL days, is 27th on the career BLKs list and 3rd among active players (he has more career BLKs than Serge Ibaka, Tyson Chandler and DeAndre Jordan) . Smith has a slight edge in standing reach and leaping ability, but Bell has a much higher motor amd has not yet displayed a tendency to jack up a tn of ill advised 3-pointers for no apparent reason.

Bell is also taller, longer and much more athletic than Paul Millsap, who was 5th in the league in BLKs in 2015-16.

I am not at all worried about Bell's shot blocking translating to the NBA level. It will be his biggest strength.

Technically Millsap is an inch or 2 longer, but yes Bell is taller and more athletic.

It's GREAT TO SEE that we aren't letting a silly little instate rivalry CLOUD OUR JUDGEMENT about a prospective player in the Blazers future!

Yep, Bell is 3/4" taller, but Millsap has 1" greater standing reach. Of course, when it comes to athleticism, Bell wins and it's not close. His no step vertical is 3" greater than Millsap and his max vertical is 5.5" more.
