Swan Island airport circa 1940

That marshy area next to the airport is where Bugsy Siegel originally wanted to put his hotel casino but it rained non stop for the 3 days that he was here he decided to build it in Las Vegas.

The PDC is going to relocate and One Waterfront Place is a likely destination. If they do choose this location the construction should start soon. It's been in the works for years now.

PSU's projected school of business building. PSU's new dorm tower(s) and this will make this area of downtown feel so much different

Why are all those business students on the roof? Did the market crash?

Not Portland but the UO's Matthew Knight arena is making serious progress:

Does it bother anyone else that the majority of these projects posted in this thread seem to be publicly driven? Man, I'd love to see some private sector investment in our fair city.

Well, the proposed smART tower was a project that wasn't going to be publicly funded

The UofO arena is private sector investment, in that it is Phil Knight's money building it.

It's going to be owned by the U of O, a public entity. All I'm saying is that most of the buildings in Portland seem to be from government money or something like the PDC or a JV like what's being done with South Waterfront. It's too bad that our need for office space is so anemic that we don't require office space even at the rate of replacement of obsolete structures.

Well, we did get First & Main built. Although it would be empty if not for the government.
If the economy hadn't crashed, if Park Avenue West had also been finished and successful, then maybe we would have seen a few more starts. If, if, if.
