New research from Public Policy Polling finds that Seattle, Wash., and Portland, Ore., are America's most favorably viewed cities. Conversely, Detroit is the nation's least favorably viewed city.

The report found that 57 percent of respondents in the poll view Seattle favorably, compared with 14 percent who view it unfavorably. Similarly, Portland has a favorability rating of 52 percent with only 12 percent taking a negative view of the City of Roses.

In other words, if the Pacific Northwest were a politician, it would be more popular than President Obama and Mitt Romney.

Perhaps not coincidentally, a recent Yahoo News story found Seattle and Portland to be the top two best cities for hipsters.

Check out the AP photo they used! That photo has to be at least 20 years old.

^Always wondered how they built those bridge foundations in the water. How in the hell do they stop the water to even start construction?

My understanding is that before this step, they make a big tube that goes to the dirt, then they pump out the water. Then they start with the metal.

That's also the same way they built the internet.

That's what I was wondering about...

I want to see footage of that not rebar FAMS!

Just down the street from the Edith Green Wendell Wyatt building, another landmark sustainable project SERA has co-designed, the Oregon Sustainability Center (in collaboration with GBD Architects) has faced difficulty. Its funding mechanism is in question after the state declined to offer up its share of the cost, and while the OSC may be even more impressive than the Wyatt in its sustainable performance (the project is designed to meet rigid Living Building Challenge strictures for net-zero energy and water consumption), renderings show something not nearly as visually compelling as the Wyatt despite considerable improvement over its original conceptual designs.

The Wyatt, in this way, may come to symbolize a relatively rare alchemy in the architecture of Portland or beyond: a leading-edge sustainable building project that also possesses, through its innovations, a striking beauty.

And they don't slow down
Portland's such a speedy town
Hot clothes high society
He said it never get the best of me

And then he met a girl with hair like the sun
With social status she was number one
He left it all and he left downtown
A little voice follows him around

Fez, I know I've previously asked you this, but do you know where I could find a photo of the old Metro on Broadway? Do you remember the Metro? It was what occupied the corner where the Columbia store is on Broadway. I loved that place. It was one of the only "cool" places you could go as an under 21 Portlander back in the day. It was literally just a food court, but it was pre Mall food court. It was cool. I've searched, but I can't find any photos.

^ That place smelled like cloves and they only played Depeche Mode!

Finding Portland video is very very cool!
They should have got some footage up at Timberline or Mt Hood Meadows.

this is the best I got

Nice find...... my only question is how does the concrete dry under water?

this will blow your mind HCP...

It is believed that the concrete inside of Hoover Dam is STILL curing.

btw, curing, HCP, means drying/solidifying. To "Set" if you will.

(of course, that's mostly an urban legend, but I couldn't miss an opportunity to poke fun of HCP at the end there)

I'm reporting you to Denny!

Denny! Slypokerdog just called me a Bitch! I WANT ACTION, AND I WANT IT NOW! And I also want my money, so I'm going to call JJ Wentworth.
