Ah, the Yard building.

Skylab Architecture quickly slipped in a design change at the last minute that decreased the amount of windows by 30%.
It got by the city and only when the building's exterior was near completion did the design commish notice. It's probably the most hated building in the city. There has been numerous articles on this.

Exactly. The original renderings looked pretty sleek. The extra glass made the subtle lines and angles stand out. Now it's kind of big ugly box.

I don't know, the color is so awful that it's hard to imagine it would really look that much better with more windows. I'm looking at it out my office window right now and it looks like someone set fire to it and left the ruins. But at least it isn't beige. Got enough of those.

If it were black without any of the orange/brown tones it would ....help some.

The non-reflective glass kills it for me. There is no depth. During the day the interiors blend with the exterior creating this ginormous matte brown/black blob.

It *may* not look so bad at night with interior lights on. But overall it's the ugliest project since SoWa's Mattise apartments.

The next boom area of downtown. A lot of projects are in the pipeline. A large Japan firm are building the first US 'Toyoko Inn' hotel near the area.

yeah, my buddy owns tube and fortune there in the bar district. its gonna turn into hipster yuppieville before too long. I mean I'll probably love it with some urban candle shops and poke bars, but y'all might not. haha

LA did Chinatown revival right. So much better yet they kept the identity of the neighborhood.

Friend of mine runs SIMPLE. The company that has their name on the Timbers warmups...... that is where their offices are^ I like it.

To me, it is the location of the Yard building that sucks - how it completely ruins the view of downtown and the west hills coming in from the east.

The 1892 Workmen Temple is about to be leveled -- apparently beyond repair.

My grandfather had an original print of this picture. It was friggin huge and took up the side of a large wall. Now it probably adorns the home of a family member whom I dispise and whose hand I wouldn't shake in good company.

Hey man, all you have to do is provide their address. I'll be happy to take the print off their hands and you'll be happy to know how unhappy they will be.

Don't know it. And don't plan on finding out. It would anger me beyond reason just having to go through the regular channels to find out. But that is very truly nice of you. It would give me much satisfaction!

Wow! Man, me and my boys got VIP cards to get into the Lotus, mid 90s! We thought we were the shit!

I was in the boiler room of that place as a kid, working for my dad and helping rebuild a firebox. Another interesting place that's seen it all. Downtown just keeps losing its history....and soul.

Traffic is a problem that will get worse as a lot of high-density projects are in the pipeline for the central city.

Remember, the blocks here are only 200x200:

With the real estate value skyrocketing, the city will see more PAW-like projects.

There are 10 high-rise downtown (not including the Pearl) projects already up for review or under construction.

Isn't there a cap on how many floors a building can have here? Not taller than WF tower and not more floors that Big Pink?

Developers can always opt for height bonuses but the cap is 460' -- it's about protecting the views of the mountains.

There are some developers that want unlimited height for point towers though.

Is that tall new one in the middle the one across from Director's Park? I like it.

I just don't understand who has greenlit all of these highrises downtown.

I hate to sound like a grumpy old man, but it is going to ruin our sweet city. My office is on a corner in the Pearl. Across one street, a new hotel is is replacing a fun, funky old building. Next to me another monstrosity is going up. There is no place to park now, and that is without the thousands of people who will soon be working and staying on this one corner every day.

We are going to be Seattle jr. The city is not designed to hold so many people downtown. Sad.

The city has a plan in place for the growing population and the central city is going to get A LOT denser. The area to have a Pearl-esque boom next is the Lloyd District.

Yeah, I'll believe it when I see it. This to me resembles nothing more than bike-lanes and fucked up Tri-Met light rail bullshit. They need to make four lanes of I5 from Wilsonville to Washington for starters.
