OK so the Wade quote was from March of last year......and then he went out and had a great year. So the question is he one the few who only play hard in his contract year? Or has the light turned on for good?

There were reports when Whiteside was with the Kings that veterans tried to help him and he just would not put in the work. I am not sure that handing 100 million to someone with motivation problems is a wise idea.
Let me preface this and say that I am not sold on Whiteside, but the fact the he persevered, went overseas, and apparently worked hard at the game does suggest significant signs of growing up and maturing.

That is two separate instances. The tweet is from 2015, the quotes from wade and bosh are from a year later, a few months ago.

He might be a decent pickup, I'm just wary. The dude just seems like the classic "mail it in after getting 100 million dollars guaranteed" type.

Who named him Whiteside? In the NBA, that costs you a million dollars per year.

I'm sure Portland's not the only team that will push hard for him.
I think of us as a 50-win team even though we didn't win 50 because we spotted the league a bunch of games by attempting to develop Vonleh. Here are the 50+ win teams last year:
GS - not interested in HW.
SAS - not interested in HW.
Cavs - not interested in HW.
Tor - not interested in HW.
OKC - not interested in HW.
LAC - not interested in HW.
PDX - pushing hard for HW.

14, 12 and 4 out of the Center spot would be nice if he kept those numbers up. It would make Plumlee a trading piece which I think he has pretty good value.

Yeah, but sources close to Whiteside didn't mention any of those other teams as a possible landing spot. They specifically mentioned Portland.

Of course, it could just be a rumor started by his agent to get MIA to up their offer, but even then, why would he single out POR?

We won't know until we know, but this is really the only rumor we've heard in the past few days that specifically mentions the Blazers. So, food for thought...

Another instance where I wish FA was before the draft. We could have signed HW in FA and traded Plums for a pick. Now if we do that and strike out with HW, we're fucked.

NBA does this shit backwards.... keep harping on it every year.

Well Dallas has been granted a meeting with him on the first day of free agency

I wonder if we can even get a call back let alone an opportunity to get a meeting

Agreed
very frustrating

Your act has grown tired. I guarantee he meets with us if we ask him. Now whether he signs? That is an entirely different matter.

I couldn't disagree more. IMO, it's the the NFL that does it backwards. This way makes way more sense.

Yeah, but each team is in the same boat. And don't kid yourself, teams talk to agents/players well before July 1st. Whether much real talk is done during that time, i'm sure they can get a decent feel.

I can't think of one reason why whiteside would choose dallas over Portland. Miami ok it's a fun city and a well run team, but Dallas? Nah. Cuban should've started a rebuild last year.

It's the same reason why I'd peace out if I was Parsons. They don't have any young talent. They're still hanging onto the idea that Dirk can lead them to a championship.

No state income tax and warmer, drier weather during the season.

But, I think being part of a team on the rise would be preferable to being on a team that has been in decline, or at best, treading water for the last 5 years.

Parsons has somehow all but disappeared from all free agent discussion. Just read somewhere that Dallas won't be offering him a max. Wonder who will.
