What else is there to do in the dog days?

What players would you never want on your team, and why? For me it would be

Carmelo - A ballhog who makes everyone on his team worse
Rasheed - A talented A-hole
Dwight Howard - A fake good player
JR Smith - Head case
Ruben Patterson - Need I give a reason?
Russell Westbrook - Something about him - his grandstanding? - rubs me the wrong way

1/3 of mine are former Blazers : (

Why not KG? You wouldn't want one of the best PF to ever play the game on your team?

Kobe, leads the NBA in one career statistical category; missed shots.

James Harden, is effective because of an ability to contort his body and embellish contact. The worst style of superstar basketball I've ever witnessed.

Steve Francis and Stephon Marbury; me first ball chuckers that made their teams worse.

Greg Oden. Yes the injuries are unfortunate but he handled them with no class, was out of shape, became a drunk, and bad mouthed a city full of many that supported him. Thats enough but he's also a domestic abuser.

JR Smith, Dion Waiters, Swaggy P, Enes Kanter are the types of players I can't stand to watch. They embody everything wrong about the NBA the last few years. They are basically the anti-Spurs anti-Hawks type of players. Selfish ball stoppers. Carmelo often looks this role but on team USA he was great so I do wonder about having him with good teammates. But he forced his way to NY and agreed to resign there so he's as much to blame as anyone for the Knicks problems.

Westbrook is a hell of a physical specimen that I enjoy watching from purely that angle but he would drive me nuts if he was on my team. I still wonder with a new coach who was a PG how he will do. I could see him making changes and becoming one of my favorite players. I've never seen a player play with that effort and athleticism. I would've loved to see him be drafted by the Spurs or another contender and learned some team first concepts early on. I'm hoping its not too late in his career for him to change.

Adam Morrision, Kelly Olynyk, Yi Jian Lian and Andre Bargnani are others I dislike.

David West ring chasing. It feels like cheating to me; similar to Malone and Payton joining the Lakers. The Wade/LeBron/Bosh trio taking less than the max to bring in others was like that as well. Its basically circumventing the salary cap. Be a real player and elevate a team to a contender while getting paid, then it actually means something if you win.

For Blazers its Damon Stoudamire, my least favorite of all time. He would overdribble every possession so the team was rushed into poor shots. Was an average 3 point shooter and that was his best skill. Terrible on defense, and a negative selfish attitude. I primarily blame him for those teams not winning titles. I'd rather have the rapist Ruben, fat Felton, angry Rasheed, spitting Bonzi, dogfighting Qyntel, lazy Darius, coke can pot smoking Rider, bar fighting Gary, or hoops family Randolph. Not to say Damon is a worse person then all of them; he's not. But in terms of play on the court that I have to watch as a fan he was the worst. Plus it was for so many damn years on that huge contract.

IF it was possible, Say you could have traded Tarry Porter and Kevin Duckworth to the Detroit Pistons for Isiah Thomas and Bill Lambier we probably would have won 2+ championships. Just sayin.

Might learn to tolerate Carmelo since he played defense on the team that won the gold medal but guessing he would drive me nuts. Having to watch Howard look like a HOFer one night and a basket case the next would be tough. Was similar to watching Rasheed but I accepted him for what he was. Seemed like the media was the one wanting more.

I can't improve this list. I adopt it.

I despise him more than any other player - he's a good version of LMA.
I think KG might have more of that killer instinct than Aldridge though. KG is more aggressive.

I would have taken Isiah Thomas and Bill Lambier. They are players you hate when your on the opposite side but you love them on your team.

Ummm, I did say that KG was a good version of LMA, did I not?
I still wouldn't want either one on the Blazers - ever.

I understand hating Kobe, but I sure would love him if he was on my team.

I can think of a few but being a Blazer fan, do I have a right to be picky?

I accepted Pippen, so I guess I can pretty much accept anyone if he helps.

There are some really good lists/names here. Good job, good effort!

However, my list starts with KG. Even over K*be. Easily over Melo. And it's not really close.

I like Iverson. I would've liked Reggie (on our team). I don't like Harden much, same with Tyson Chandler (remember him trying to out-tough Przybilla for about 2 years straight?) I wouldn't take back #12.

Basically, I hate fake-tough guys. I'm talking about guys who jabber-jaw, punch in nuts, talking about "being a soldier" and "going to war" and then running from an actual fight. I hate fake-tough guys that pick on little guys. Or guys that talk smack but know they'll never have to put up or shut up. (Ricky Davis, Lance Stevenson, Patrick Beverley, I'm looking at you). I also don't have a large spot in my heart for guys who refuse to do the dirty work to be good at their position. Big guy who doesn't rebound? PG who doesn't pass? Wing who doesn't play D? GTFOH.

As for the game, if you have a transcendent one, you have one. MJ was/is a complete asshole, but he could play (obviously). Iverson was similar. I loved watching him play. KG? Not transcendent.

When I saw the title I thought you were asking about "all time players" - as in best players of all time - I would not want on "my" team. And the only one I'd put on that list is Kobe Bryant.

Now I see people listing everyone they don't like, even marginal players who never amounted to much and of whom little was expected. Do you want a list of every jerk in the NBA? It would be a long list. Or just the jerks who can't play? Anyone who got in trouble with the law? Or only those who got in trouble for things we disapprove of (I disapprove of sexual assault and don't give a rat's ass about pot smoking; some feel the opposite, they hate Rasheed and make excuses for Bryant and Ruben Patterson).

No wonder the lists are all over the place!

But I'll stay with my first interpretation, and my first, last, and always answer is Kobe Bryant.

Yeah, I'd go along with that analysis. Kobe is undoubtedly an "all-time player" from a skills standpoint. He's also an arrogant me-first jerk who almost certainly committed rape in Colorado and got away with it. That puts him in a unique class of guys I want nothing to do with.

Kobe Bryant because he's Kobe Bryant.
