He will be given non-guaranteed vets minimum offer and unless he gets guarantee, he is likely to sign with the Nets, joining former Olympic teammates Kidd and Carter...and staying close to home, reports Al Iannazzone in the Record, quoting multiple sources. </p>

Frank said he had a "very, very good workout". Told ya.</p>

I'm still surprised by this move. My knee-jerk reaction says "win now mode" (oh hey that should be our slogan btw) but there's just so many swingmen on the team. Hite can maybe get minutes as a third PG; signing Houston would get rid of his SG minutes I believe. BRob loses all hope of seeing playing time.</p>

It is interesting to note that even after Garcia reported in the Daily News that the Nets had no interest, Iannazzone in the Record was reporting the Nets would be going to the Houston workout, a sure sign they had interest. Iannazzone is just a better reporter than Garcia. Maybe Garcia phrased his question wrong or didnt ask the right follow up. In any event, the only real scoop the Daily News had on the Nets all summer turns out to be wrong...not just wrong, but 180 degrees wrong. </p>

It will be around December 15. If Houston is doing well, there will be calls to trade CARTER. </p>

It's a win now strategy...and the other part of Thorn's philosophy: if you load up the team with quality leadership guys, you can take some chances with knuckleheads.</p>

So if they do sign him, I can see him and Carter playing together, Carter at the point, in a big lineup with Boki at the SF. Not much defense but bombs away!!
 
Considering how teams are required to carry more then a full squad (able to hit the floor), making space for a media darling, and local fan favorite of the Knicks is not a bad thing in terms to generate some news, excitement, ticket sales at the worst... especially if it's for the vet min, which if I recall, the league or players association pays for some of.</p>

I'm a little surprised he's not going to the Spurs, Mavs, or some other team like that in hopes for a championship, but it's better than signing Malik Allen, and a lot better than signing Robert Hite. Hopefully he can stay healthy this year, wherever he plays.

Hopefully he really is in good of shape as they are making it out to be. If that wasn't a smokescreen to cover up our interest in him, he still must be balling.</p>

I understand what you're saying, I just figured if he's playing for peanuts he'd want to get a championship. But if he wants to play for the Nets, then I'm not going to complain.</p>

Given that the Nets denigrated ("he's too one-dimensional") and jettisoned House, I'm a little surprised that they are pursuing this. Assuming he makes the team, it would also seem to reduce the dependence on Marcus (a good thing) and Antoine; doom Hite to being cut; and possibly spell the end of BRob. IT would alaso seem to make it harder for Rod Benson; he'd have to fight it out with Malik Allen and Ilic for that last roster spot.</p>

My personal feeling is that this is a waste of time and Houston has basically nothing to offer an NBA team.</p>

But since this roster spot is obviously not going to be properly used for a versitile backup player who can fill in at the point, I'm going to hope that this move placates the enormous ego of Jason Kidd and gives him a reason to believe the Nets can do great things. </p>

Remember, THRON is a size queen and Houston is considerably taller than House which allows him to play at either wing spot. </p>

... even if healthy and playing 65 games, I can't see him logging major minutes. Age, knees... gonna displace Carter, RJ?</p>

I don't see his signing effecting others as much.</p>

I'm surprised by this. Rod Thorn said he wasn't interested in Houston, so he must of had a very good workout. I'd take him over Hite, and perhaps Benson, any day. Nice to see him join us, loved him back with the Knicks.

I guess this won't be so bad. I'd like to give this a shot. Hopefully he signs with us and makes our bench even better. </p>

Who knows, NetIncome is probably right about Garcia.</p>

but really, i hate houston. i don't really wanna see him here...i hope he gets re-injured or somethin. i'd rather have someone who doesn't have such a high possibility of injury, or just straight up sucking.</p>

what happened to jumaine jones? when were they working him out?</p>

Too early to tell. At 13 players, the Nets are $218,000 below the luxury tax threshold. Adding ANY player without another roster move would put the team over the luxury tax. Assuming the Nets add only Houston and don't buyout or trade any other player, the team will be $1 million over the tax threshold. But last year and the year before, the team went into the season more than $2 million over the threshold and after trades (Jackon/Johnson for Nachbar and McInnis for Robinson) they got under it. Vet minimum deals count toward the threshold. </p>
