I was thinking the same thing. If we all have so little faith in any of the plan B center options we have been discussing, then draft one just as good but cheaper. We will still need a rent a center for a year though. (JO)

I like this idea. His size/length is very rare.

He's a ways away though. His lateral movement is mediocre. Defending the p&r is going to be a nightmare for him.

I went to one blazer game this year (I live in Eastern Oregon) and in that game we were outrebounded 18-3 in the first quarter. I had never heard of a team only getting 3 rebounds in a quarter, nor do I recall a team getting 18 in a quarter.

I like the idea of drafting Gobert, but I'm not sure at 230 or whatever he's listed as that he would be able to step in and start. I feel like we already have a backup C. Apparently, he's not a good rebounder.

Gobert is years away. He was very underwhelming in France this year. I like the idea of developing him slowly, but he's more WAY likely to be another Alex Ajinca than the next Dikembe Mutombo.

(I wouldn't be too upset to see us pick him, but don't expect him to contribute AT ALL for a while. He's also got a questionable "motor".)

I don't know if Gobert is the guy or not, but I agree that going young (Myers + someone?) makes more sense than getting a guy who's $10m+ a year, around eight years older, and not good enough to make a huge difference.

I'm with you. I've been quietly hoping we can get Gobert for a while now, maybe buy a mid-late pick. Although, it seems like he may move up pretty high in the draft now.

What if Gobert and Shabazz are both there at No.. 10? Then what?

One can play sooner. The other is a project, in a position of need, with maybe a higher ceiling (pardon the pun).

I wish I could disagree with you but I can't. I think he can become a good defensive player, but rebounding takes other skills than just length. (Some guys just have a knack for finding the ball off the rim and reacting quicker) I am sure he will be good at tipping the offensive rebounds out, but I agree we need some toughness underneath.

I lean towards the player with more skills. I would go with Shabazz.

Shabazz sounds like a Marcus Thornton type. There's no shortage of no-conscience gunners out there. If that's our choice, get Gobert. But I'd rather trade the pick if that's indeed our choice. Or take Dieng over both. (Yes, I absolutely believe he'll be the best player of the three.)

The point is a good one, but the main problem is that Gobert doesn't rebound well where he is now. He can block some shots, but I don't think he can do much else. And, with that slight frame, I think it will be a while before he can contribute.

the key then is do we trade LMA because no matter what guy like Gobert and leonard need a lot more time, they may be getting there when LMA's contract expires in two years. Your point is valid because when I look at what C's are "likely" available to us I say YUCK

"I was excited to get an up-close look at Rudy Gobert, the supposed cream of a fairly deep international crop. He's exceptionally long, looking every bit of 7-foot-1, and can be a presence on the defensive end. However, he possesses virtually no offensive skills at this stage, and will be tossed around in the NBA. He's a "potential guy" who would be better-served staying in Europe for another couple years, but the word is he wants to come to the US this coming season. The problem is he wouldn't be able to handle the physical aspect and is a major liability on the offensive end."

Yep, that goes along with the quote I just posted, however if we really go "project" then the Kiwi kid Adams may have the most upside of any C in the draft.

also lets not forget Dieng, Givony just tweeted Dieng has the second longest standing reach but he did not give the numbers, he has been said he has a 7'4 to 7'6" wingspan. He rolled an ankle so did not participate in today's drills
