Frye is a scrub. He's a soft 6'10" version of James Jones. He doesn't have the credibility to talk down on any Blazer -- especially Roy.

They would have been better off saying that Roy coming back was a huge emotional lift for them, and that was the reason they won this game. For the rest of the series, however, his presence will be expected, so the emotional lift won't be there.

Junior guard Brandon Roy surprised both fans and the 12th-ranked North Carolina State men's basketball team with his early return to action tonight, following a meniscus tear in his right knee that was surgically repaired on November 30. Projected to sit out 4-6 weeks, Roy came back after only 19 days on the sideline.

"The whole time I was anticipating coming back from this game, we just didn't want to let the secret out too early," Roy said with a smile. "I just practiced two days this week, but I was feeling good and Coach Romar told me that it was my call."

Coach Romar echoed Roy's feelings, saying "He was cleared to play and he felt confident in trying it out, and he played well. We didn't know if we wanted to put him in there, but we tried it out and it worked out."

Roy started slowly in the first half, only playing five minutes and logging one rebound.

"I was nervous before going in, and then the coaches talked me into going in. I love our fans and there is no better feeling that walking on the floor and hearing those fans cheering for you. They let me know they loved me as much as I love them."

The slow start was over as quickly as it started, as Roy lit up the court on both sides of the ball in the second half. Shooting a perfect five-for-five from the field, Roy's 10 points each came at clutch moments in the game. With less than three minutes remaining in the game and the Huskies holding a close 61-58 lead, Roy came out of nowhere to return a miss from Tre Simmons with a dominating dunk. His two dunks and strong inside game in the second half were key to the Huskies' success.

"I feel great. I just want to go home and lay back and enjoy this one."

Eerie how similar the two situations are.

Even the AZ Central columnist shares the same sentiment as Canzano.

After the game, the Suns minimized Roy's dramatic return. Statistically, this game was dominated by the Blazers' big men, a front line that dominated both ends of the court and coaxing the Suns to settle for bad shots, including 17 missed 3-pointers in 23 attempts.

But discounting Roy's impact is foolhardy. He is the team's best player and the emotional leader. His presence seemed to calm the Blazers, filling them with a new confidence and swagger. If the Suns don't stamp out this sudden uprising, Roy's unexpected comeback will go down as a legendary moment in Portland history.

But that's their story. Our story isn't so magical at the moment. Unfortunately, the Suns remain a work in progress, a team with some explaining to do.

Aldridge said he saw his first open shot of the series once Roy stepped onto the floor. Whether or not that is true, Roy's presence did inspire Aldridge to have the best game of his career. And then Roy hit the two biggest shots of the fourth quarter.

So NO, we wouldn't have won by 20 without him. With all the pressure continuing to be mounted on LMA and Bayless, we likely would've lost by 20.

I'm in the same boat, Roy just being there helps this team, now if he can produce some nice numbers Portland should have the upper hand. I'm hoping that Gentry thinks of Roy as just another player and doesn't adjust to him......that would make HOWIE very happy!

I was in Canada and didn't get to see the game (no TNT in the lodge) but it's good news that the Suns (and maybe reality) indicate Roy didn't make a difference... because we all know he CAN, and if the team can win without him making a difference, they are more likely to win when he DOES make a difference...

I agree with the first statement, but not the second.

In games 2&3, the Blazers looked like a team that was planning their summer vacation. Roy's willingness to play hurt seems to have inspired (shamed?) them into an honest effort.

Charmin Frye? What the fuck has the soft piece of shit done in the NBA? Dude is week. My highlight of that game is him getting schooled by the crafty vet, Juwan Howard. Howard gathered an offensive board, faked a pass, Charmin turned his whole head in the way of the "pass", and Howard layed it up...easily. The replay on it is fantastic. Pretty sure Charmin's head did a full 360.

The Suns are weak enough, that their leaders know that saying the loss had anything to Roy will put the Suns mentally in a fragile place now with Roy being back. The Suns were asked whether they wanted to use Roy as an excuse for losing. They declined the offer and blamed themselves. Why get mad at Frye? His teammates say they're tired of him praising Portland's culture so much. He's a great ambassador for the city.

Agree on all points. With Roy in the lineup, the Suns really have to pay attention to him, regardless of whether he's 100% or not. I really think that they were expecting to coast to a 5 game series win after games 2 and 3. But now that Roy is back, they've got to be having serious doubts now. I expect the Suns to come out tight tonight, since they know if they lose this one they're screwed...
