America at its worst?

What country do you think is the greatest country in the world?

My own answer would be that we are the greatest on some measures, not at all the greatest on other measures, and that there is no universal 'greatness' scale so the question is impossible to answer.

Where else would you prefer to live?

Don't let the door hit you in the fanny on your way out.

This American has little to say in this thread, from what I have read, I have a minority opinion on this subject.
Yes I am an American and quite patriotic about it.
Sorry to see, I maybe alone.

THATS PROBABLY BECAUSE YOU DON'T HAVE TO INTERACT WITH TOO MANY AMERICANS

I am living the dream here in Beautiful Central Oregon.

Most people in my life have been or are exceptionally good people.

Karma has been very good to me.

Don't let the little shit ruin your day, or your life.

I don't follow you. Be straight forward, I am but a simple old fella.

Most people in the US (at least in the major cities) are selfish scum. Being in the boonies in Oregon, you're surrounded by nice people, therefore you have a better perception of Americans.

>>> Yes sir! Very nice people.

therefore you have a better perception of Americans.

I have been in all but one state, worked in a most of them. I do have a feel of where to be. I did make this choice.
However, I failed to notice how liberal this state became in my absence. I don't think I would make the same choice over again, but it really is not much of an effect because of being surrounded with nice people from around the country and other parts of the world.

You talking to me? I don't have any desire to move elsewhere. You are the one that hates our government, not me.

Yep, talking to you.

So by your measure, this is the best country. You got it right even though you said it wrong the first time.

Even a stopped clock is right twice a day.

So by your measure, this is the best country.

Best country for him. Not objectively best country, which is what he was talking about. Using a measure of "if they live there, they're voting for that country as the best," India is the greatest nation in the world and China is second.

Pervasive poverty is an attraction. Don't let the door... You know :)

Your post is unconnected with what you're responding to. It happens as you get older, Denny. Don't worry about it.

There's a difference between wanting to live there and having no choice but to live there. You must be getting older, too.

That would apply to the US, too, as the vast majority don't get the volition to go anywhere in the world they'd like. For example, the huge number of US libertarians would prefer to live in Somalia, with very little government intervention, but they apparently can't afford to uproot their lives in the US and move there. So they're stuck being committed Republicans here.

Also, determining "best nation" by whether someone lives there is silly.

Where someone chooses to live.

Choose, choose, choose.

Americans have plenty of mobility - enough to move to any country that'll have them. Even you can.

I'll assume you were joking. Even you, a "libertarian," know that plenty Americans live in poverty. Even lower middle class or middle class families can't simply move wherever in the world they want. There are, you know, things called "expenses" associated with uprooting your life and moving to a new country.

10s of millions of Mexicans want to live here, not Venezuela.

Not silly. That's an unsupportable assertion.
