America is being besieged by Biblical illiteracy

Religion was invented by the ruling class to control, confuse, and otherwise occupy the gullible masses to prevent revolution.

And this thread is proof it works.
Well that's weird since most revolutions were done so by religious groups. But we know you are Maris, the ruler of hyperbole

The opposite is true. Nearly all major revolutions throughout history were mounted against oppression by a ruling "religious group".

Wrong! The American idependence was backed by a religious belief, many Muslim revolutions were religious as well. Then add Hinduism and their revolt for independence into the mix.

You are only grasping on Communism, which the ideology doesn't support religion. The French Revolution was anti religion as well, but most others weren't.

The American Revolution had absolutely nothing to do with religion. Zip, zilch, nada. Fuggetaboutit. Never happened.
Not sure where you got such a wrongheaded idea, but it certainly wasn't from any history book/class.

Since you fail to mention any other specific revolution that you think was led by a religious group I have nothing else to rebut at this time.

Really?! And that's why they said "freedom of religion?" As one of our rights?! America may not be very "religious" now, but they absolutely were back then.

Mags, you need to actually read the first amendment. It's every bit as much about freedom from religion as it is about freedom of religion:

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof"

Our founding fathers did not want the government they created meddling in religion in any way. That seems pretty obvious from the wording of the first amendment. The American Revolution was not about religion, it was about self-rule.
