Didn't even think of that. $7 million/per for a 15 mpg guy, and a first round pick spent on a PF?

Stunned.
The plan may be to slide AB to power forward and put Johnson at centre. Not ideal but perhaps better than rookie Davis at PF and AB at C.

Rumor is Toronto has 3 S&T deals agreed to for Bosh. From the Bulls it's a $15M TPE, Taj Gibson, and 3 #1 draft picks.
Well the inside word is that the Raps came to Bosh before Bosh could even come to them with a short list, they had sign-and-trade deals already figured out, and gave him a list and told him to decide where he wanted to go. Turned the tables on him so to speak. Resigned to letting him leave, though, which is unforgivable.

That's asking a lot of Amir Johnson, isn't it? Anyhow, good luck with that. I feel bad for you Rap fans, not because of your team, but because of your GM. You have decent players, but you have terrible contracts.

Blazers fans have a bottomless well of optimism. Raptors fans have a bottomless well of cynicism.

W don't have a GM, apparently missed on Chris Paul last week, and Jordan Farmar and Wesley Matthews are the focus right now according to media reports.

I'm not terribly optimistic for the future of this franchise.

The optimistic fan says we missed out with a GM, so not having one can only help.

Would the Raptors be better off without Johnson? I doubt it.

There is no opportunity cost. If they had let him go, there is nowhere else to spend their money.

The next CBA is going to lock shit down. They Raptors will be unable to add and/or acquire a player with the skills and potential of Johnson. Why shouldn't they seal him up now?

Ed O.

Man, you guys could have had him in an S&T for Rudy and a bunch of expiring contracts.

If there's a hard cap, we're better off not doing anything at all and keeping our powder dry to re-sign our own players.

I'd say they'd be better off without his contract on their books for the next 5 seasons. They could have tried to S&T Bosh strictly for a 16.6 million dollar TPE and had that AND been 8 million under the cap. The team's going to suck anyways, Amir isn't pushing them anywhere. Why not take your lumps, break it down, and build it back up? I didn't like the Ed Davis pick in the draft, but then, I hate their roster, but Amir doesn't help them up front alongside Bargs any more. If someone else is going to overpay for him, then let them, and move elsewhere, find a cheaper replacement, and give big minutes to Davis.

I'd prefer a team with 8 million in cap space, a 16.6 million dollar TPE, and over 12 million in expirings(Evans, Bellinelli, Banks) (preferably with a new GM), to no cap space and the rest. And an overpaid backup.

BC's an idiot, IMO. He wants to build around Bargs, which is fine. I know many here hate him, I think he's a decent player. But he should be a PF. And he wants to build around him, but can't help adding PFs to the mix. It's insane. He's going to continue to push for him to be a C, and slowly eliminate by having him add more and more weight, the advantages he has. It'd be as if Dallas drafted Dirk, and then, since he's tall, made him put on 45 pounds to play C.

FYI, you can't have both TPE's and capspace--it's one or the other. However, everything else in your post, spot on.

I guess that's your opinion. Not a big fan of Johnson. Plays hard, yep. Good skills? Not really.

Exactly.

Unless we had a shot at LeBron - which we don't - I don't see "good deals" happening in free agency.

Limited bench guys are getting full MLE type deals, which while not crippling, are just a waste of time imo. Might was well give that money to our own players who the fans already know and love.

2nd tier stars (Johnson) and would-be stars (Gay) - are getting grossly overpaid, and I would rather sit tight than have been locked into some off-season plan to go after one.

We should sit tight, wait for some dominoes to fall, and see if we can make another run at Chris Paul. If that falls apart, we can look at free agents that are left to see if any got lost in the shuffle that we could pickup for a reasonable deal.

That is exactly what happened to Andre Miller. In that offseason he came out saying he wanted $10mil per for at least a 4 year guarantee. After waiting by the phone, and while we were distracted by the Hedo disaster and the RFA offer to Millsap, the market played out and we got Andre for $7mil/per, 2 yr guarantee.

Plan A: Wait to see if Paul still sitting there. Make a run.
Plan B: Try to pluck the best "leftover" Free Agent after all the cap money is gone.
Plan C: Don't sweat the summer too much, health is the biggest boost we can get next season anyway.
