Forum Game Amnesty players?

Suppose we got to amnesty players again. Pick a player from each team that would get it.

The most obvious candidate is Batum, of course, but there are some players that it would be a real dilemma for the team. Kevin Love, for example. Or even Chris Paul. Perhaps even Al Horford.

Yeah I agree, teams are much smarter with contracts than 10 years ago.

A guy like Chris Paul is probably overpaid but it doesn't make sense to amnesty a borderline all star.

John Wall is one. Maybe Kyrie Irving is one in 16 months.

Contracts used to be 7 years... now they are only 4 years so they dont get really bad untill around the time it expires.

Id rather lose him for nothing, and I am not an anti CJ guy, but that contract is nuts when combined with Dames...

Id rather he left in FA, then Blazers pay him a contract thats about 2x what his value is to the team. Especially because it really hurts their flexibility going forward. Its not that I dislike him personally but I think that money could be much better spent for guys that fit better.

So you are just willing to toss away around 130 mil? and still expect the team to go out and spend big money on the team? You lose the flexibility for any future movement with McCollum as well. At least he is still producing for the team at a high level as well. Sorry, but that would just be a poor business decision.

No Im not moving the goal post, Im simply stating a fact I wouldnt have given him that contract. If amnesty was a thing I would do it to CJ, and I wouldnt have given him the contract. It wasnt presented as an argument.

If CJ is as good as that contract says, then theyve got not excuse to be as bad as they are. We all agree Dame’s a superstar, and Whiteside is at least a serviceable starter. CJ is being paid like a star, and frankly he isnt, he’s a solid to very good 2, and his production doesnt come close to the contract. Not to turn this into a bash CJ thread, but getting out of that contract IMO is about their only hope of competing, so an amnesty does that. Maybe they can trade CJ but I have a feeling that what they got in return wouldnt be what us fans want.

I still think CJ at worst could be traded for expiring contracts and a pick or something so you're probably being a little extreme. This summer instead of the amnesty you don't think Charlotte would trade Batum and a pick for CJ?

Okay then, which free agent(s) would you pursue this summer that we could realistically get and how much would you offer them? Would that be more worth it than waiting to possibly use Batum's contract in a trade at the deadline or having to pay CJ's full contract out to make him go away?

Harrell, Gallo, Bertans, Joe Harris, numbers I dont know. jerami grant I believe has a player option. Id think there are a couple of players you could get for 10-15m a year who would overall be good for the roster.

Well this years FA class isnt very good, but getting cap space also allows for making lobsided trades. Also you could get 2-3 “decent” players for the price of CJ.

Would you trade McCollum for Wiggens if it was presented? or how about for Westbrook (we would have to add filler for Westbrook)?
