Randolphs biggest problem right now is his coach. Last night on NBATV they were laughing about Don Nelson and how he was for stretches of the game, going with Magette at center with 4 guards. Brent Barry and Eric Snow were literally holding their gut because they were laughing so hard.

Perhaps so, but it's no guarantee that playing for Nate would cure whatever ails him. He IS very inconsistent.

I would argue that a huge reason for his lack of consistency would be his erratic coach and his substitutions...which would surely change if, er....nevermind. Seriously though, he is young and will get more consistent as he matures, and Nelson is maybe the only coach in the league with more lineup changes than Nate.

Consistent or not, his PER is 18.27 which is higher than notable 4's such as Amare Stoudemire and our very own Lamarcus Aldridge. And he is only 20 years old!!! I'd be able to swallow an off night here and there to get him.

edit: minor typo

Maggette on this roster wouldn't work at all IMO. Talk about clogging the lane with 4 players who are at their best driving the lane (Roy, Dre, Jerryd, Corey) The only way having all of those players on the same roster and getting it to work would be to install a princeton-like offense, and I'm not sure LMA is a good enough passer out of the post to make it work (although he does have the shooting range required of a princeton big man).
Magette would be AWESOME. We should get him right before our Lakers homegame. Outfit him with spiked metal knee braces and aim him at Kobe. We deserve to have a knee cap buster on our team that bust's OTHER teams kneecaps. If LA went down in flames this year and never recovered ever, that would ALMOST make up for Portland going down in flames. If we can get Corey "the machette" Magette you make that deal yesterday...assuming the same MMA rules that applied last year apply this year if not all bets our off.

I guess I'm more about players that would make us better versus guys that would the Lakers worse.

From an article this summer. I can't find the link but here's the quote I got from their message board:
I'm not saying he didn't grow a little bit, but it seems nearly every single young draftee is hyped as having undergone a late growth spurt. Facts being what they are, very very few guys grow after the age of 18 and those that do typically don't grow much. If he were to spring up an inch, he'd basically be the same size as LA which is 6'10

I'd love to see him on Portland, but these deals being posting seem like pipe dreams in the Cheech and Chong variety. The local Bay Area talk show hosts seem to think they would want back a quality veteran 4.

I thought last year during deadline time I read that Suns were about to trade Amare to the Warriors, but they wanted a deal with Randolph in return and Mullin didn't want to give up Randolph.

He's another finesse player with a soft game. We need toughness on this team. Another guy trying to find his groove in this league is the last type of player we should be going after.

He gets an awful lot of rebounds and blocks per minute for a soft guy. I think that we need to go after someone young, because our timetable has been pushed back by injuries.
