An interesting article on Rep. Wilson's outburst

I don't have a problem with the way he said it, but I do have a problem with the content. It shows Rep. Wilson is either too stupid or too dishonest to be a congressman.

Edit: and yes, I know "too dishonest to be a congressman" is kind of a funny concept.

The Constitution gives us a right to free speech and protest. It doesn't say we have to be "right."

That said, I think Rep. Wilson was absolutely right on this point. Liberals have been trying to include illegals in every aspect of American life, and that includes healthcare coverage.

But he was right, so he wasn't dishonest. John Behner just read on the floor of the House where illegal aliens are allowed to be covered under this plan. He also brought up the fact that--twice--modifications to the bill to outlaw their coverage outright were presented, and twice were defeated on a party line vote.

I think that when a President speaks to Congress, there should be no audible reactions from Congress during the speech. Cheering, booing, clapping, etc. during a Presidential address just seems silly and annoying to me. Shouting "You lie!" is way over the line, even though at the time, Obama was indeed lying.

We've had a thread here already on this illegal alien nonsense. It's not true and it has been proven not true. Edit: That is, it has been conclusively shown that HB3200 does not cover illegal aliens, except possibly to force them to buy insurance at market rates.

Not according to the Congressional Research Service.

Wrong. Go read the CRS report.

"Under H.R. 3200, a 'Health Insurance Exchange' would begin operation in 2013 and would offer private plans alongside a public option…H.R. 3200 does not contain any restrictions on noncitzens—whether legally or illegally present, or in the United States temporarily or permanently—participating in the Exchange."

Oops.

Yes, if you take one sentence out of the whole report, you can mislead people about what it concludes. That's also in chapter 1, right?

Go read the whole report and get back to us.

Then why did the Democrats vote on a party line, not once, but twice to reject an amendment to the bill to specifically ban illegal aliens from coverage?

Because they're Democrats??

Oops. I guess that was a rhetorical question.

I understand the kowtowing to illegal aliens. The latino vote will decide elections for the forseeable future, and to be viewed as being anti-illegal immigrant is to many to be viewed as anti-Latino. There's a throwaway line in HR 3200 that states:
“Nothing in this subtitle shall allow Federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully present in the United States.”

The problem is enforcement. They'll be admitted and cared for and treated like anyone else. They'll never be asked to prove citizenship and then instead of being deported they'll be let go when they're well. Reimbursements? Meh, that's someone else's problem. In the end, the government will pay for them.

You are apparently confusing emergency room care with health insurance. We provide illegal aliens emergency room service now, and we will presumably continue to no matter what happens with health care reform.

Signing up for government-subsidized health insurance is a rather different matter, and it does require citizenship.

When you don't require proof of citizenship to receive health care we will be not only offering them emergency room care, but full blown health care which will be paid by government insurance. It's health insurance through the back door. Why do you think language to specifically deny it was voted down? Read the proposed Heller Amendment to HR 3200.

I know most on the Left think those on the Right are stupid, but a 2nd grader could figure out the loophole that's intentionally being created. I guess the Left thinks those on the right are dumber than that. Pass the construction paper, glue and safety scissors!

The fact that the Democrats TWICE in committee rejected speficic amendments which will deny illegals coverage should be proof enough for anyone that illegals have an opening to receive coverage. I literally believe nothing that comes out of Obama's mouth anymore. I'm not even sure he knows how to tell a truth.

if congressmen wilson pulled out a machine gun and made like rambo- u would be alright with it as well, of course with the caveat that he limited his massacres to democrats only.

Substantive post. :biglaugh:

That's what you drew from my previous post? Really?

I believe President Obama is a decent and honorable man. I just happen to think he has a vision of this country I do not share. He has a facility with language that makes him tough to pin down, especially with those accustomed to President Bush's awkward but straight-forward speaking style.

straight forward? he's a simpleton if thats what u mean.

THE FACTS:

The House version of the health care bill explicitly prohibits spending any federal money to help illegal immigrants get health care coverage. Illegal immigrants could buy private health insurance, as many do now, and they could also buy into a new government-run insurance plan if Congress creates one. But unlike legal residents, they wouldn't get federal subsidies to help them.

The bill's exact language: "Nothing in this subtitle shall allow federal payments for affordability credits on behalf of individuals who are not lawfully in the United States." Health care legislation in the Senate is also being crafted to exclude illegal immigrants from coverage.

However, Wilson is far from alone in thinking that the prohibition in the House bill doesn't go far enough. For him and other Republicans, the problem is not what's in the bill, it's what the bill leaves out. There's no provision for how the prohibition would be enforced, or any requirement for people to prove they are citizens or legal residents before getting health care benefits.

In fact, Democrats on the Energy and Commerce and Ways and Means committees defeated Republican-offered amendments that would have required people to verify their legal status before getting care, with some Democrats saying such requirements would be unnecessarily burdensome for people legally entitled to coverage. Wilson cited the defeat of those two amendments Thursday when he discussed his outburst with reporters.

"I will tell you this, that it was spontaneous. It was when he stated, as he did, about not covering illegal aliens, when I knew we'd had those two amendments," Wilson said.

I think it's okay to speak your mind, but he shouldn't interrupt especially an insult. If you ask me, it seems like he wanted attention and was exploiting Obama's speech as a forum for his opinion.
