Ah shit, this theme is getting old .....

If this keeps up, last year will look more like a normal one.....^^^

I just have this feeling "injuries" are the only thing which could hold back Gregorius from growing into a solid Yankee SS for a few years to come.
He has electric talent on the field. Eye catching.
Being at least a .250-ish hitter with some pop completes the trick!

Nothing serious............................................................................................................................................................................yet.

I have previously said in other posts regarding Gregorius (and the trade) that if he could just improve his numbers vs LHP, the rest of his offensive game should (?) follow.

And previously:
imo, the Yanks have a fair chance of soon having one of the better young SS in MLB.

And of course I could be wrong. lol

Now that I have seen more of him, showing his skills and making various plays as a SS, and with this "minor" wrist injury popping up....It reminded me of possible other factors and tweaks my perspective and opinion to- let's just hope the kid stays "healthy".

Tex being injured could be a gift....

...they should have never traded for Jones in the first place...there no need for him. As far as backup 1Bmen, I don't see how he's a better option than Bird, or for that matter, a better option than ARod if he can continue to hit and stay healthy.

Maybe they want to make sure Bird gets his couple/few hundred ABs this year at 1b in the minors without him doing mostly as a part time DH and much less at 1b behind Tex? I wouldn't mind seeing the kid get a few hundred ABs in that capacity with the Yanks....maybe, we just might see him up hear sooner than later.

And I would try and keep Arod off the field as much as possible.
If he's able to "swing the bat" and lumber on the base paths, so be it.
He's had the hip problems- if he can be effective with the bat, the Yanks (imo) should maximize his contribution by make him DH and avoid as much as possible putting him on the field and avoiding lateral movement.

He is a competitor and he WILL NOT give a half hearted effort or take it easy on the field.
Would hate to see the big jerk pull up lame moving for a ball in play at 3b or 1b especially if he's been doing the job with the bat.
If he's hitting well, he'll do enough "moving" on the bases. lol

...facing minor league pitching isn't going to help Bird more than being on the main roster and also learning tips from Tex on being a great defensive 1Bman, as well as traveling with the vets on the big team...he's already shown he can swing the bat.
...besides, you said "the plan" was to "get younger"...Jones will be 34 in June, Bird is 22. ...hence, "they should have never traded for Jones in the first place".

... if his hips are good enough to run the bases, he can also play 1B, which is the least athletically required position on the field. He's played respectably at 3B and if he can play 3B he can play 1B...and "lateral movement"?...lol.
...This is about a "backup 1Bman", in a utility role, so it's not that critical one way or the other. Garrett freaking Jones is a mediocre 1B and is getting $5 Mil this year...they should admit that between Bird and ARod they don't need him, cut ties with him, and trade him.
