And Portland takes C.J. McCollum

Apparently it's because Olshey and his agent grew up together.

Watching interviews with CJ... He's something else. Love his style.

I know it seems like a no brainer BPA choice but do you think Lillard demanded/asked for CJ?

No, but you should set up a Twitter account, have 1998 HTML coded on a "blog", and this board would freak out over Lillard calling the shots for the Blazers!!

I have no idea what this is in reference to... Canzano?

CJ's time to shine was a little more predictable - there were echoes of the Blazers showing heavy interest in him for weeks leading up to the draft, and sure enough, they made him the first Lehigh player selected by an NBA team. CJ is not one to forget where he came from, not that it would be easy - a question in his first professional press conference comes to him from his college newspaper, and his buddy Carl ("What's up, Carl?" he smiles) about the significant reaction to his name being called in Barclays. In his safe, but not at all disingenuous way, CJ deflects the triumph off of him and onto his coaches, family, and team. Because that's what a good player does.

Draft stock and humbleness, which these two guys have in spades, don't always translate to professional success (just ask Kwame Brown) but with success coming from deeper than number ones in recent years (see: Damien Lillard, Paul George, James Harden), it's a great place to start.

It strikes me that McCollum is a bit of a media star. So is Lillard. Their agents should be able to put together some type of ad campaign featuring the both of them together. As a Blazers fan, that would feel a bit odd. Since the NBA is all about marketing, it can't hurt our success either, if you catch my drift.

Or perhaps Ben Gordon?

Joe Dumars? Granted he was before my time but their games sound similar -- High IQ, knack for scoring and outside shooting.

Identical size as well at the SG position: 6'3" 197 lbs.

Can any of you grizzled vets tell me about Dumars? You can only get so much from scouting reports.

Dumars was an elite defender. McCollum isn't.

If McCollum comes even close to Dumars, then the Blazers should be thrilled. I just don't see it, though. Dumars was very, very good 2-guard who had to both score a bit and defend a lot.

One of the smartest and quite sgs in the league. He really frustrated the hell out if Drexler during the finals. The dude was a baller, one of the deadlier shooters from three.

And as papa said, he was an excellent defender

See, that's funny...... I was going to say he wasn't a good defender. Just off memory and not looking at stats, all I can remember is him getting abused by MJ in the post all night long. He did play with some great defenders though. Am I wrong about his defense?

But on the O side....... the guy was money from downtown!

Damn. It would be interesting to go back and see the PERs of the players I grew up watching and idolizing. I wonder if guys I thought were flat out amazing as good as I thought they were.

Guess you missed the dumars of 87-88 and 88-89. Dumars really did a number on Jordan.

Whatever homie. I watched everyone of those classic games and nobody did anything to Jordan. Dumars had some of the best weakside help defenders in the game helping him out.

Just watched the Job Interview with Simmons and Rose on M.J. McCollum and I was pretty excited about drafting him but now i'm over the moon about this kid. He has a poise and work ethic that is off the charts. Lillard and him are going to set a precedent with this team for the next 10 years with their work ethics and intensity. He may be fairly small for a combo guard but he is all heart.
