whats more upsetting is this is the guy cho decided to roll with. not make a trade, not sign a dampier type but sean fucking marks.

Well ... if we're just going to judge him by the trades and personnel moves he's made so far then it certainly isn't looking very good so far.

As for Marks being 'number 1' (really to me, he's more like a big 'number 2') at least somebody on the team made someone's top spot on a list.

No, most of us thought either MM or Mixum.
 
Marks has actually been able to put up a PER of 16+ in two NBA seasons.

Calling him the "worst player in the NBA" seems more racially-based than anything else. While Marks isn't at all good, there are players who are worse; they just don't stick out like a goofy Kiwi.

Blake's USG% is at 12.

12.1/7.6 = 1.59. For comparison, Brandon Jennings is at 1.57, but with a PER of 16.9.

Look at Flynn. USG/PER ratio of 18.3/4.5 = 4.06!!!!

I think the argument can be made that he is the worst player in the NBA.

Then again, look at Randy Foye. He's lucky to still be in the league.

14.6/6.7 = 2.2

Did they write this article before we picked up the new guy. Heck with new guy, Marks and Babbit, we might have three in the top ten. :D

True, but a lot of those have low USG rates. A player like Jonny Flynn, who has a coach that allows him a high usage rate, yet is 2nd to last in PER, is an extra level of suck. If he had a USG% in the low teens, I'm guesstimating he'd have a PER near zero to one.

I never said anything about anybody's usage rate, I just thought it was amazing that there are 55 rotation spots in the NBA being filled by guys below replacement level (usually defined as a PER of 10).

Good stuff, BC. My one concern with VA is that it heavily relies on PER, but doesn't weight USG and inflates minutes as a statistic.

VA = Total Minutes Played * ([PER - PRL]/67)

The Impact rankings you provided do a better job, IMO, since usage by the coach is also considered. I'd like to see the leaguewide rankings on those numbers.

I don't see any league where Kevin love is the 6th "best" player, since VA isn't at all looking at defense in its "impact".

Basically, if a person accepts PER as a sole statistic for putting value on a player, VA is going to strongly corretlate, since PER is the basis for the VA statistic.

Much more than PER and USG, or PER and Ortg will correlate.

Is anyone surprised? Sean Marks wasn't good enough to make an opening day roster. He wasn't our first choice when two of our pivots weren't ready to start the season. We chose a 35 year old washed up player who was in Argentina over Marks.

I don't see the big deal.
 
Doesnt surprise me at all that he's the worst. IMO, the only reason he's on the roster is to have a center to scrimmage against in practice.
