I dunno, whenever he is going down into the "trenches", it kind of seems all for show at times. Like when he was in haiti, it kind of seems disingeniune. In the real world you get your ass beat

he just seems like a pompous ass. "hey look at me, I'm with all these low class shitheads!"

his tweeters.

@andersoncooper
Got roughed up by thugs in pro-mubarak crowd..punched and kicked repeatedly. Had to escape. Safe now

I'd still like to see video. Watching a reporter get his fanny whipped might be fun.

My guess is at the rate this is going, Mubarek is going to end up being hanged within a few days. He had his chance to end it non violently, now it has gone to violence, and now most likely, he will end up dead in his greed for power.

Christine Amampour and some FoxNews guy also claim to be harassed and fearful for their safety.

Where do these idiots think they are? Israel? The US?

You're in the middle of riots with a 3rd-world populace leading the charge. Did they expect Western reporters to be praised and feted?

My guess is that Obama mandating that Mubarak step down, after a 30-year relationship as a quasi-ally with the USA during which the USA was Mubarak's meal ticket, was not going to end well. Obama should have kept his mouth shut after Mubarak said he would not run for re-election to see if the riots would calm down. Instead, his administration immediately announced that was not good enough, and now both sides are entrenched in an all-or-nothing battle.

What a foreign policy disaster. Apparently the White House Press pool put in a complaint with Gibbs this morning to try and ask Obama questions.

Request denied, of course.

ABC's Christiane Amanpour said Wednesday that she and a crew came under attack from a "mob" on the same day CNN's Anderson Cooper reported the same. Amanpour wrote in a reporter's notebook released by ABC News that the attack came after trying to film on a bridge into Tahrir Square. "An angry mob surrounded us and chased us into the car shouting that they hate America," she said. "They kicked in the car doors and broke our windshield as we drove away."

Boo-flipping-hoo

Good luck using this against Obama.

Nobody in Egypt, on any of the many different sides, gives a rat's ass what Obama and America say or do.

The vast majority of them despise us and our long history of interference in their country and our support of the tyrants who have ruled it.

There have been reports of organized assaults against journalists. Aside from those mentioned here, they include NBC, Al-Jazeera, ABC, and a British broadcaster (not sure if it's BBC). According to Richard Engle of NBC, these are not "caught in the crossfire", they are deliberate targets at journalists, regardless of nationality, who are trying to get the story out. At least one journalist is missing, some were held for hours, some severely assaulted, cameras stolen or smashed. The assaults are by the organized pro-Mubarak thugs, not the protesters.

I am not sure why these supposed hyper-constitution lovers find something funny about assaults on free press.

As for Mr. Cooper, whatever else can be said about him, at least he is there trying to report, instead of sitting in a snug studio inventing apocalyptic fantasies about China taking over New Zealand.

Personally, I oppose assaults on journalists, regardless of their nationality or sexual orientation or size of ego, or whether they are liberal, conservative, socialist, apolitical, or whathaveyou.

I don't want to see any reporters attacked even if they're wrong in their political views. Their safety is more important that should be the main priority. Let the aristocrats deal with this mess. Or increase security and whatever.

Increased security when they are walking through the streets of thousands of angry muslim protestors?

The thing is, I think many of the reporters just forget who they're dealing with. They have a false sense of security and are foolishly putting their lives on the line dealing with crazies.

The army wasn't really doing anything in the Anderson vid. Either do something or "increase security" by not putting them in harm's way like that.

I'm not a Liberal so don't worry you don't have to tell me about their false sense of security. If I was a reporter I would completely expect to be attacked in that country, etc. But my point is if you are going to report from where the mob is at, at least have the army protect you.

The army isn't going to protect foreign journalist. They don't really want any coverage of what's going on to begin with. They maybe should hire private security but even in a mob setting you can't do that.

Yeah I wouldn't count on the army, but they should do something because we're talking about human lives. You don't have to like the foreign journalist or whatever but don't let people hurt each other. It could have turned worse.

Yea well that is what dictators do. The guys who attacked him were Mubarak supporters who want the protest to end and want the coverage of it to end too. Welcome to what living under a dictator is like. It would be similar to letting the Mafia take over the government here.

Don't those kind of incidents attract even more attention? I don't think anyone in this country cared about Egypt a few days ago, aside from their pyramids. Letting the pro-Mubarak supporters go toe-to-toe with journalists isn't savvy in building international support. There are a lot of messed up politicians in power, just ensure the safety of people at least.

"ensure the safety of people" while the country is undergoing a revolution? uhhh....

Dude, the lazy bastards in those tanks are not helping their cause by being idle.

It would be beneficial for all parties involved to maintain civility.

So ... who will be the first journo held hostage, or even killed, in Egypt?

Fox News’ Greg Palkot & Producer Hospitalized After Being Attacked While Covering Egypt Protests By Molly Stark Dean on February 3, 2011 1:20 PM

Fox News Channel foreign correspondent Greg Palkot and FNC producer Olaf Wiig have been hospitalized in Cairo, Egypt after being attacked by protesters. Palkot was beaten badly and Wiig may have a broken jaw.

This isn’t the first time Wiig has seen trouble on the job. In 2006, Wiig was held hostage by gunmen on the Gaza Strip.

John Roberts reported from London today on the attack on the Fox team:

They were forced to leave their position when a Molotov cocktail was thrown at it, a large fire erupted. They were forced to flee. They ran out and ran right into the pro Mubarak crowd and were severely beaten and had to be taken to the hospital, spent the night in the hospital. The extent of their injuries was fairly grave, however, they have been released from the hospital.

This adds to a growing number of attacks on reporters in Egypt. Roberts’ video report on the FNC attack is after the jump…

ABC News Reporter Brian Hartman Threatened With Beheading

A group of angry Egyptian men carjacked an ABC News crew and threatened to behead them today in the latest and most menacing attack on foreign reporters trying to cover the anti-government uprising.

Not to be outdone, Anderson Cooper claims a second attack! Cooper inches ahead (pardon the pun)!

Anderson Cooper attacked again in Egypt 'my window smashed' (video) -- CNN news anchor and host of the network's nightly program AC360 has been attacked again in Egypt, he reports. Mr. Cooper posted to his Twitter account Thursday that a vehicle he was riding in on the day after he was first attacked was assaulted, and his window was smashed.

"Situation on ground very tense," he writes. "Vehicle I was in attacked. My window smashed. All ok."

Those darned egyptians really need to obey our constitution, crandc.

On one hand, you have to respect those journalists for putting their asses on the line. On the other, it's outright stupid to expect to have some sort of force field around you, protected by some universal (never attack journalists!) law.

In other news, Anderson Cooper's great great great great gay great grandfather lost his head via the guillotine while covering the french revolution.
