Simons says he sees himself as a guy who can do multiple things on the court...score, pass, play defense. Says 82-game season & travel will be biggest adjustment.

Anyone know why Trent Jr is not being introduced as well?

Neil Olshey said the Blazers haven’t made any decisions on whether they will tender qualifying offers to Nurkic, Napier or Connaughton.

I'm not a 100% sure why, but I think I read somewhere that the trade is being executed in the new league year after the moratorium ends. I may have heard that wrong though as there were no contracts involved so it doesn't make sense having to wait.

Not to derail this thread, but isn't that something Blazers should have already known by now?

I would have expected several planned scenarios laid out pre-draft. A FA target list & contingency plans upon contingency plans.

But it all starts with our own FA. If they haven't decided to offer the qualifying offer yet - then it appears that they are being much more reactionary instead of creating a plan & being proactive.

I would assume that they have a pretty good idea, but that trades or other player movement could happen before the 29th that could impact what they do. Why the heck would Olshey say something that he might have to back away from later?

I took it as him saying that they simply aren't ready to announce those decisions today. Like @e_blazer said there could still be moves this week that impact those decisions. Roster spots and luxury tax could potentially be an issue so they could be worried that one of the three would immediately accept their QO.

Could have to do with the money being moved in the deal? Pretty sure I remember Olshey saying the trade involved cash.

Then why not say:
"Yes, we've made those decisions internally. We haven't had a chance to discuss it with the players or their agents yet, so until we do - there will be no further comments."

Probably seems like a small thing to most of y'all, but I think there's a huge difference in the preparation.

Because it’d leave you with one less thing to complain about.

What is a coy ?
"Coy" means "reluctant to give details, especially about something regarded as sensitive"--basically saying that Olshey has absolutely already decided to extend the qualifying offer to Nurkic, but is just acting as though the decision hasn't been made yet.

I assume that would be because if he said outright that Nurk's QO was being offered, it would just lead to more questions about why his but not the other two.

The Blazers announced the trade on their website.
In the past, teams weren't allowed to publicly discuss trades until they are completed. I'm assuming the same rules apply and the trade has been finalized... but maybe they changed it for draft picks.

If he said they'd already made the decision, then the players or the agents could then press them for information that hasn't been disclosed yet. "If you've decided, you need to tell us so that we can plan better for our free agency..." Saying the decision hasn't been made yet can at least reduce that.

I don’t remember Layman getting a press conference either.

Understood thank you, let's see what Nurkic does

There was cash involved.

When he kept talking about his dad riding his ass since he was 5 years old he made it sound like emotional child abuse. No wonder he's closer to his mom ;)

I don't thinks so at all. His father will NEVER be as hard on him as life will be.

Not only are we preparing them for life, We're preparing our sons for life as a black man.

I didn't think it was. It actually made me think about you and some other black dad's I've been around. It's strict love that hopefully produces a thoughtful, respectful teenager and adult. Anfernee seemed to view it the same way. He certainly seemed happy talking about it. Like he was crediting his dad for his own success.

Where is our G-League affiliate now? Cause thats where he’s headed with the quickness. It should be good for him though.
