Atatiana Jefferson was killed Saturday night after a neighbor called the police to say her door was open with the lights off and it was unusual.

Police parked streets away before surrounding her house on foot. Atatatiana, who was playing Halo with her 8 year old nephew, and had left the doir open to enjoy the fall breeze, heard noises outside. She paused the game and motioned for her nephew to be quiet. The noise came again. Some one was in her yard.

She moved to the window to look out and see who it was. She heard yelling, a police officer just 18 months on the force who failed to identify himself as police yelled at her to raise her hands. Who knows if Atatatiana understood his words. What we do know is she was given no time to respond. Before he even finished yelking his orders he shot her dead, standing there at her window confused and probably afraid. She fell, her 8 year old nephew watching her die.

This cop needs to be fired and thrown in jail. Anyone else would be in jail. He gets the rest of the weekend off to put his story together before he came in today to explain his actions. Bullshit. We need to keep holding these cops responsible.

Playing with an 8 year old while black.

And the neighbor was trying to be helpful, just asked for wellness check because door was open, now he feels guilty.

He’s resigned. The police chief says they’re viewing it as a dishonorable discharge and would have fired him if he hadn’t resigned. He’s under investigation and will likely be charged just like the Dallas cop was. Thankfully, more and more often these things aren’t being swept under the rug.

The IQ of the average cop in America is (by design) about 27 pts lower than the average US worker. Until PD's stop deliberately hiring candidates of low intelligence because they won't question authority, we'll never have cops who can think quickly and act accordingly.

Being that he's a guy he won't be skating with a 10 year slap on the wrist, a hug and a bible like the last one.

When I applied for a job with the Portland police, the only questions they asked were about my educational level, work experience and physical health. They turned me down because I wear glasses.
There were no questions that would involve my IQ level except, perhaps, the ability to fill out the paperwork.

POS comes to mind. Lock him up and throw away the key.

Should have just been a routine health and safety check up. Protect and serve. These people have forgotten what they are here for.

Walk up to the door, announce it's the police and that you're there for a welfair check, that a neighbor was concerned. You talk you go. That easy.

No need for parking several streets away, surrounding the house guns drawn, and shooting the first shadow you see.

do cops get any actual training for how to deal with this or do they just pass some test and get a gun. What the fuck. Walk up to the front door, knock, go ahead and have your hand on your gun, and go from there. Maybe don’t sneak up to a window and shoot at the first thing you see.

I mean, it could have been the kid in that window. It's bullshit.

Cops should have military style training.

Not all cops should be armed either. Have a certain faction that is armed and trained to kill (or not kill).

If more dumb fuck cops didnt have guns, they would be more likely to call for qualified backup

Seems like whomever was in charge was itchin' for some action. Got his rookie all amped up and let him loose. Blame should include the Dept, not just the killer.

Could be. I agree.

I was house sitting my Aunt and Uncle's big ass mansion out in Palos Verdes about 15 years back. I forgot the alarm code, the shit went off then I remembered it and shut off the siren, thinking nothing of it. About 30 minutes later, I hear the doorbell (it had a glass door that was see through). I look through and see 3 Torrance PD officers with guns drawn, I was pretty startled. I told them what happened and they just said ok and left.

If I was black, my ass would have probably been grass.

There is about an 85% chance that you would be dead right now.
