Just sent my ballots invitations!

After extensive primaries recipe searching, candidates are now on the ballot for the positions of Turkey, Cranberries, and Dessert.

Election results will be revealed Friday, November 23, at 5 PM at election watch party Thanksgiving dinner.

Please cast your ballots by November 15 so your vote can be counted.

Position 1: Turkey (vote for one)

a. Bourbon and Brown Sugar Glazed Turkey

b. Chili Rubbed Turkey

c. Sugar and Spice Glazed Lacquered Turkey

d. Roast Turkey Breast with Classic Gravy PLUS Stock Braised Turkey Legs

Position 2: Cranberries (vote for one)

a. Updated classic cranberry sauce (with wine and vanilla)

b. Spicy cranberry sauce (with shallots and jalapeno)

Position 3: Dessert (vote for two)

a. Apple Crumble

b. Chocolate Caramel Cake

c. Chocolate Kahlua Cheesecake

d. Cranberry Lime Pie

e. Gingerbread Layer Cake

f. Pear Pie with Red Wine and Rosemary

g. Pumpkin Caramel Tart with Toasted Hazelnut Crust

h. Sweet Potato Pie with Toasted Marshmallow Topping

A vegan gluten free dessert will also be provided.

(I'm always curious how people will vote. Usually surprise me. But then so do regular elections)

1. I just like a plain turkey roasted so the white meat is medium rare and juicy and the skin is brown and a bit crunchy as well as tender;
2. Cranberry sauce - I open a can of Ocean Spray whole cranberries. Sometimes we've been known to mix in some frozen orange juice because the two flavors really compliment each other;
3. I'd go the apple crumble. If you want to throw caution to the wind, try some really good ice cream with the apple crumble.

I'm widely recognized as a guy who loves food, which, I guess, includes nearly all men.

No, I don't. Someone else does, though.
I hate dry white meat. I'd rather eat cardboard. I've eaten dark meat all my life 'cause my mom and her sister always overcooked their turkeys until the only meat that was palatable was the dark meat.
Hey, I just thought of something. How could I get brown crispy turkey skin without having a cooked turkey? You're able to do that?

Brilliant thread. Love it. Politics divide, but great food unites.

The sugar-spice glazed turkey sounds fascinating

Cranberry with vanilla seems like it would pair nicely

Apple Crumble and Pumpkin Caramel Tart would be my dessert selections, with the cranberry lime pie close enough to demand a recount.

I don't know, Platypus, we don't seem to have agreement here!

Does this mean all of you are showing up? No ID needed. Don't need to be a citizen of anything but the world.

Agreement is not necessary for unity. Were I to attend (unfortunately, I have two other Thanksgiving reservations), differences in personal food preferences would take a backseat to the positivity of gratitude and fellowship that would presumably permeate the gathering, especially considering that whatever you serve will doubtless be amazing.

I would add that the type of alcoholic beverages offered would have a lot to do with the number of people attending. It's been my experience that there's nothing like the fellowship of people who've consumed some alcohol. Differences seem to melt away. I first noticed this phenomenon at college keggers. I had to go back to such gatherings again and again while I collected my data.

Alcohol is proseco /cranberry juice aperitif and wine. Or sparkling cider for the alcohol free.

Love sparkling cider especially when it's ice cold.

Don’t like Thanksgiving food. None of it. Would rather go to Taco Bell (and I’m not a fast food person)

Have you tried therapy? I've heard chicken soup cures everything that ails you. Must be cooked by Jewish woman.

We have a menu!

The turkey and cranberry candidates won as easily as Gavin Newsom and Dianne Feinstein. Dessert, however, was as close as Florida. Since I can change rules mid-election, I added a third dessert; that way everyone will have backed at least one winning dessert candidate.

So, I am fixing (stock simmering on stove as I type):

Cranberry ice prosecco and pineapple mango mocktail

Garden greens with roasted squash, pomegranate and pecans

Roast Turkey Breast with Classic Gravy PLUS Stock Braised Turkey legs, Dressing with greens and fennel

Vegetarian entree: French lentils with carrots and parsley
Vegan mushroom gravy

Classic mashed potatoes, crispy roasted potatoes, twice baked sweet potatoes, roasted root vegetables, updated classic cranberry sauce

Squash and coconut muffins, skillet cornbread, hot honey butter, bourbon peach jam

Apple crumble, chocolate caramel cake, cranberry lime pie, vanilla ice cream
Vegan gluten free strawberry sorbet and vegan meringues

wine and sparkling cider

Tums

(going by memory but don't think I'm leaving anything out)
