And I don't care what none of y'all say, that Jacket is dapper!

Damian Lillard gained lots of fans after he took some Portland kids on a surprise holiday shopping spree at Toys 'R' Us. Lillard, the 2013 NBA rookie of the year, might have earned even more after he stood up for a Special Olympics participant who had been mocked on Twitter.

Here is the sequence of Lillard explaining his pride of accompanying a Special Olympics athlete to the ESPYs, a fan's callous comment and the star's sharp response.

Too cool. Dame is just awesome. \

That article is incomprehensible despite help from 3 tweets, a video, and a link to the backstory. It needs the offending tweet.

The article leaves the reader confused, so no one posts in the thread. Awful news site.

It does have the offending tweet.

@SpecialOlympics @ESPYS @Dame_Lillard that could take awhile, this guy looks easily distracted

My boss just had the Adidas CEO over to his house. I sent this along to my boss to pass on to the CEO.... I'm just curious to get any info of what they really think of Dame (and how proud they are to have him on their side). I figure I'll get some insight into how involved the home base really is into the happenings of the US side of the business.

You people have no sense of humor.

nah Sly, you need to include Dame in that "you people" there. Usually I think you're one of the funniest people on the board but this one deserved the long cane pulling the comedian off the stage while the crowd boos away

I thought Sly's joke was edgy and largely harmless. I wasn't booing him off the stage.

There's the cynical side of me that goes "Really, this has to be all PR stunts... his PR team telling him to do this and that" But when it keeps happening once or twice a week, on his own accord... it's really damn cool. I think he's totally legit in all that he does. Mad props.

Even if it's PR, it still helps people and frankly I'd rather have good PR like Special Olympics than nanny rapers.

Amen. Even if it is branding, Dame has the right idea about establishing his brand as compassionate, friendly, and fun. But I think that's just him, a kid who finally has the means to affect positive change.

Oh no, I agree. That's why my cynical side didn't win.

Exactly! WIN!

Dude. Dame is the man... just sent out a flurry of tweets about the Philippines trip and how he will be donating to help the cause and wishes he could have played... and that he'd go back for sure. There's about 6 tweets and It'll take too long for my tired ass to do it, so there's my paraphrase.

I see it now. I guess I missed it because I looked for a more offensive tweet than that. The article is still confusing, mixing the Toys 'R Us event with this. Originally, I followed their link to that Toys article and couldn't figure out what the old Toys trip had to do with this new ESPYS trip (nothing).

If only I could think of how to say that players should take on more controversial causes than special needs kids...that suffering in this world goes way beyond just being made fun of.

That's cool that he's going over to meet the children that make his shoes.

Perfect!

Have something to say to
all of my fans in the Philippines...

I was really looking forward to working with and playing vs Gilas and to help them to get ready for the World Cup. But more than anything, I was looking forward to helping MVP Sports, PLDT and EWP raise funds to support those effected by typhoon Yolanda.

When EWP approached me about partnering with MVP and PLDT for this event, I knew that they had the best intentions of doing something great for the people of the Philippines!

I am definitely coming back next year and again doing clinics and appearances. Hopefully I'm also able to actually play in an sanctioned game against the Gilas teams!

To further support MVP's efforts, I am donating to MVP's foundation to help support recovery efforts in the Philippines! Together we can make a difference!

-Dame

You sure don't see Mike Conley doing things like this.

I'm sure Dame has somebody writing those facebook posts for him. Good idea though.
