Another seeding question

It is my understanding that say Portland wins tonight and so does San Antonio but Houston loses that SA is the 3rd seed. This is what espn says but why? We would have the same record as them and we own the tie breaker with them. I know winning the division doesn't mean squat in a tiebreaker so Portland should get the 3rd seed in that scenario, or am I just missing something? All this stuff about seeding is annoying.

Winning the division takes precedence over head-to-head in this scenario.

Division champion doesn't mean anything if team records are different. If Portland had a better record than a division winner, Portland would be seeded ahead. But division champion is the first tie-breaker. So the Spurs would get the 3 seed due to being division champ.

Ok, so thats the case. I didn't realize it was the first thing looked at in h2h. Oh well, Lets just win and get the 4th seed. Thanks for clearing that up for me.

So next question: Dallas very likely can beat Houston tonight. I don't see SA losing to NO, do we really wanna face Houston in the 1st round? Or SA? Personally I think it would be awesome to take down SA in the playoffs. That would also send a statement to the NBA. I am gonna root for Houston to win tonight I think.

Also, what does the bracket look like for the playoffs. How can we see who will be plaing who in round 2 or is that based on records also?

Wheels was saying how the most likely scenario would be Houston losing, San Antonio winning and us winning so we would face the Rockets in the first round with HCA.

I would just root for us and Houston to win tonight.

Personally I'm not wild to face Houston; they've had Portland's number this year. San Antonio, OTOH, lost twice in Portland big time and the Blazers overcame a 19 point deficit in their arena. They may be experienced and great lawyers with the refs, but they're getting old, tired, and injured.

As for round 2, the NBA does not reseed. The winner of 1/8 plays the winner of 4/5; the winner of 2/7 plays the winner of 3/6. The higher seed has home court.

I still want the 3 seed quite a bit, so I'm fine with Houston losing. Even if that means risking playing Houston in round one, if San Antonio doesn't also lose. Houston has been tough, but if refs allow Oden to play with not as tight a whistle, I think Portland can match up decently with them.

If we ended up as the #3 seed (having houston/san antonio losing) we would play the Hornets (3-1 vs Dallas). Then we would take the denver/dallas winner before seeing the Lakers?
