I heard this was the hottest winter in recorded history or some shit.

True? It was one of the coldest on the east coast

Clearly it depends on where you measure the temperatures :)

Oh Great! "
Antarctica hits highest temp
Now we get the carbon tax freaks!

I am just happy to find I won't freeze to death circling the place.

FWIW

In San Diego last winter, we had summer weather the whole time. The year before, it was so cold for weeks on end I was wearing a bath robe over my clothes and sitting next to the fireplace to stay warm. This year it was something in between, but it's more typical of winters. It was in the 40s at night for several weeks, but also hit the upper 60s to 80s occasionally.

Two years ago, we had no summer at all. It was San Diego winter from November to November. Grey skies 9 out of 10 days, if not more frequently.

They say you can't change the weather.

Beware 69 degrees south, lest you relive Shackleton's nightmare, the slow cruel crush of the world at its end. The exploit, while brandishing him a cruel hero, quite possibly gave his painfully focused life new meaning in the rememberance of its emptyness. He died there, and lies there still.

#‎ClimateChange‬ is not only a threat to the ‪#‎environment‬ but a threat to our national security. Coastal military bases and U.S. Navy missions on seas are at risk. ‪#‎Military‬ readiness could be compromised by these ‪#‎environmental‬ changes. The Pentagon & Climate Change: How Deniers Put National Security at Risk

Only a fool would say the climate doesn't change.

It depends on where you measure :)

As near as I can tell, there really is no "global temperature." Where do you insert the thermometer to tell?

As you said, it was one of the coldest winters in the midwest and on the east coast.

Well, I dont suppose to be a thermometer expert, but is there no way to compile such data?

You'd think so. But if they put thermometers at sea level and at 12000 ft, or measure at the top of the atmosphere, they're going to get a different value, right?

I pity the fool.

Where did the glaciers go that covered the great lakes 10,000 years ago?

Global warming on a pretty massive scale.

Why would anyone think that warming has stopped?

Well sure, but if I put a thermometer in my ass, and another one one in your ass, we could split the difference

But they're not the same measurement are they? Two different asses altogether.

And if my ass is 100 and yours is 98, it's not true that yours is the average (99).

Well, into the rectum. Which, as far as I've been able to determine, is the Mumbai airport.

Are there two earths in this scenario? I should have been more attentive in theoretical multi earth thermometer class.

There are two asses, not counting barfo :)

If there are two or more thermometers in different places, they're not measuring the same thing at all. It's common sense.

In fact, the thermometers might be measuring the temperature of asphalt or of air conditioner exhaust.

Ya know?

So, is the argument that those air conditioners are running more in recent years and that change is distorting the measured temperature?

Why would air conditioners be running more? Is it maybe because it's hotter?

How long have the thermometers been there? How long has the air conditioner been there?
