He died this morning in France.

I really enjoyed his his travel shows.

That just sucks. My wife and I have been watching him for a long time. Really great writer, narrator producer, chef. It's unsettling for average guys, like many of us here, to see someone who appears to have it all take their own life. What makes life not worth living anymore? It's scary to me. I pray I'm never in that dark of a place.

RIP Anthony.

Wow. Everyone seems to be suddebly taking themselves out. Depression is a sad and cunning beast. RIP Anthony.

I was looking at some reactions. I thought Gordon Ramsey's would be more like, " WHAT THE FUCK" then a lot more cussing.

Wow. He was a heroin addict in Time's Square back in the day and came so far. A fantastic storyteller, and as a writer, he made me jealous. Clearly he had demons, but just wow. So sad.

This echos my sentiments exactly. I love Anthony Bourdains shows and writing style. He was one of my "hero's". This is very upsetting for me.

Lately, Bourdain's shows had taken a more political, scripted theme to them. They were not as authentic as they used to be, where it would be about him traveling and meeting people and being authentic. Meeting local villagers, or actually trying out new foods and experiences.

Now his show was covering politics and bullshit. He was pushing an agenda and it was likely either expected or outright demanded by CNN and their producers.

I've been a long time Bourdain fan and this news, while sad, isn't really shocking. He was a heavy hardcore drug user, more often than not quite bitter and pessimistic in his outlook on the world. He was a rockstar who ended up working a corporate gig. His creative outlet was his writing and his travels and TV shows, and he likely lost control of that aspect of his life.

Im hearing rumors or autoerotic asphyxiation. Not confirmed.

Awful news! This comes a few days after Kate Spade committed suicide.

It's senseless. Bourdain had it all. A call to a shrink, attending a feast at a local restaurant, or a taste of premier weed could have helped.
His daughter must be mortified.

I love documentaries and I love traveling. Somebody turned me on to him just back in March. Had never heard of the guy. Scrambled and have watched season after season of his old shows in the past 2 months. Absolutely love him.....this is crazy!

The thing with depression is that it can be deep rooted. One can "have it all" but feel that its not enough. Travel, drugs, hell even talking to a "shrink" may not be enough.

Check out "A Cook's Tour" (I have them all saved somewhere on my computer). Many of the episodes are online somewhere. Its from the early 2000s and is just so low budget and authentic. Singapore, Cambodia and Vietnam are his best episodes there.

Even if you aren't much of a reader, you should try to read Kitchen Confidential, the book that made him famous.

Having it all isn't "all of it" if you're battling depression or even worse, nor is it the cure for something thats neurological in nature.. That stigma has to stop. It's insidious, it sucks. :( Depression and any of its ilk suck. A lot. And it's non-discriminatory.

Not important enough for me to Google.

that's kind of a douchie comment. Especially since googling is easier than taking the time to ask here. She has also been all over the news.

Look, this back and forth takes more time than googling. And googling takes more time than the ini

Googling is not easier than my question. Also, this back and forth is more time and trouble than anything.

I'd also like to point out that I didn't make the assertion in the first place and was simply seeking the clarification that comes with the making of any assertion.

So, not 'douchie' at all, as you put it. 'Douchie' is your assertion that my seeking of clarification was 'douchie'.

Lastly, I don't find it worth my time to read about every person that makes the popular news that I might also find galactically uninteresting.

Used to enjoy watching his travels which he seemed to truly enjoy, but he got swept up and exploited by the whole irrational hate/juvenile reaction of the anti-Trumpers and he became an angry, depressing bummer. In a way, he was murdered by George Soros.

George Soros killed Bourdain?

I nominate George Soros for one of Trump's so freely given pardons.

Also, I never knew Bourdain had any politics in him. All I knew was that he ate some mighty strange food.

I often wonder when mental health will be taken seriously in this country. It still seems as a joke to a lot of people or a lot of people misunderstand it and all sorts of mental illnesses. It’s why I always hated when a shooting happens the first thing people do is blame guns. The last few days we have had two very successful people kill themselves. Vets kill themselves all the time, etc. bourdain, his story, and show were amazing. Dude had a way of words and narration. Didn’t see it coming. That’s the case with a lot of mental illness though. Nobody cares and nobody sees it coming and when something happens from mental illness, people deflect and often don’t talk about it. There needs to be an actual conversation about it taken seriously

You don't need to wonder Cippy….people do take mental illness seriously, especially those close to the mentally ill. I counseled PTSD war vets before I got out of the military….I've had friends die throughout my life from addictions and depression. None were famous so people didn't take much notice outside of those who were close to them...many were addicted to heroin as a response to chronic depression. As to Bourdain, Heath Ledger, David Carradine, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Robin Willliams etc....all were junkies at some point or alcoholics and in the end commited suicide. Fame and wealth had little to do with it. People do address it when famous people do the death dance but fact is, people most don't know do this all the time. I have less grief for those who have ways and means to get into rehab than those who fall between the cracks such as the homeless. Heroin is a drug of pure apathy. Bourdain was addicted to heroin and cocaine most of his adult life. He also spent most of his time outside of this country so it's not like he hung himself in New York.....he was in France...Bourdain drank heavily...alcohol is an enabler for depression. Unfortunately freedom of choice also includes freedom to end your life if you so choose.

Well then clearly you don't understand it though you claim you do. Just because Bordain got wealthy and had his own show and lived a good life and had past issues with drugs doesn't make him any different from anybody else with mental health problems.

Depression is depression...as I said...alchohol is the great enabler as well...in his case that could've been the trigger...I know a bit about mental disorders, bipolar disorders, PTSD, etc....disrespecting that isn't really necessary or useful to the issue...people of wealth do have ways and means to address their own mental illness was my point...average Joe out there might not. Bourdain checked out...I liked the guy's show..sad for him and his. There's no gloating about his status involved. There are patterns in suicidal behavior though.
