Now let me start off saying I'd prefer to just resign LaMarcus. He is a superior defender and can slide to the 5 at the end of games for small ball. We know he gets along well with teammates and staff. I think he's going to ultimately resign here; but for the sake of the discussion theres going to be no Blazer news for nearly two months so might as well ponder some of the other options.

Lets say LaMarcus is going to sign with either the Spurs or the Cavs and won't return. He prefers the Cavs but can only get there in a sign and trade. Love decides he doesn't want to continue the Cleveland experiment but he prefers to go to a playoff team instead of the god awful Knicks or Lakers. Love is from Portland, has family here and is comfortable in the area. He grew up watching the Blazers. He won't have the pressure and national microscope he had playing with LeBron but still has an opportunity to make the playoffs every year. He has the chance to be thought of as stepping up for this franchise when it was spurned by its cornerstone.

Love is 26, LaMarcus is 30. Love has made 584 threes in his career; LaMarcus has made 61. Love can have the offense run through him on the high post like LaMarcus but he is a much better passer. I thought his defense was improved this year even though its still not great.

Can you imagine the 3 point shooting of a lineup with:
Meyers
Love
Wes
CJ
Damian

That lineup would be unlike anything the NBA has ever seen. Neil would need to round out the roster with some defenders.

Love's value has never been lower than it is now and he still has a few years until he hits his prime. I've always thought LaMarcus was superior to Love but some fans have gone too far where they don't at all respect the elite player Love is. He is one of the best free agents on the market and could ultimately be the superior choice when we look back at this crossroad a few years from now.

If we knew with 100% fact Aldridge was leaving, then sure, I'd take Love for him, basically for free.

Kevin Love is a 2guard in a 4man's body. In Minnesota he had down screens set for him to get him open shots. He has a horrid post game, where his go to move is a jump hook that more often than not is a miss when he has length on him.. Due to the fact that Love has the same issue boozer does in the post.
Length bothers him.

Love is far from an elite player. He's a bigger version of Mike Miller.

I personally would hate to see the lineup you mentioned. Everyone standing at the 3... I already get frusterated with the Blazer offense at times because with Aldridge/Nards in the game the guards should have easy pickings at the rim. Yet most of the time they pass up the wide open layup to kick it for a 3.

Yes, if LA was locked into the idea of leaving and no return. I would take Kevin Love right now.

He's a good player. Better to get him in a trade than to watch LA walk off into the sunset with nothing in return.

Would the salaries need to match? I don't think Love deserves the max. But I would take him for less. If we have a chance for one of the center free agents then I would say no, but I would take him if not. You figure by his third team he will have grown up a little. He does have skills.

The op assumed lma is leaving. It is really surprising to me how many people wouldn't want love in that scenario considering the option are love or what, Leonard? I don't think you can blame him entirely for not winning. Minny has a horrible front office and Cleveland was a really difficult situation to step into. I think he could be a great player on an uptempo team. His outlet passing along would make me want him and I think he would get McCollum lots of easy transition baskets. He's not great defensively so he'd need to be paired with a chandler or Jordan type of c but I would take him in a second; unless you want a total rebuild but if you want to win I think he is as good as you could hope to get

Aldridge has a lot more reason to want to be here than Love. If Aldridge leaves, he leaves, but we're not getting Love even if we wanted him (which I personally don't).

If Aldridge is definitely leaving, then the FA PF that I'd immediately make an offer to is Paul Milsap. He's had a better year than Love, he plays both ends, and he hasn't been injured. Plus we almost got him before...

Nope but I would get in on a 3 way trade that we get Julius Randle and the Lakers pick this year while they get Love and LeMarcus goes to Cleveland. Would only do it if LMA said there was no way he was resigning.

I'd rather try for a Blake Griffin or a Mirotic from Chicago before I went for KLove, but I'd take him over getting nothing back for him.

I'd honestly rather us build around Lillard and lose LMA for nothing, than trade LMA for that overrated stat stuffing piece of shit. Also, what makes anybody even think LaMarcus wants to go to Cleveland? The only place he leaves us for (which I don't see him leaving anyways) is SA or Dallas.

No.

I understand it's a thought exercise, but I don't like the premise. ;)

I'd rather do something else with the cap space than sign Love. Like sign Hibbert and another player and start Meyers.

I'd be open to it.

The Chris Bosh role has been a disaster - he floats instead of posting up. That's not his game. I think some are forgetting just how good Love is on the block.

When ISO'd against LMA he was scoring at will when he was in Minny.

No, if we are gonna trade him in a S&T, I rather it be to the Lakers or the Spurs. They can offer us the best return packages.

Spurs could look something like:

Danny Green (on a new deal)
Patty Mills
2017+19 1sts

Lakers:

Julius Randle
2015 Top 5 pick

I don't think a s&t is an option - he won't get the fifth year.

I like that Laker package though.

Neil isn't stupid, I'd be willing to bet that Love is plan B.

He has to have a backup plan in place.

Love would be a fantastic option if Aldridge left. It's pretty clear that Cleveland isn't using him the right way and I think he'd flourish in our system.

I never had that Love-ing feeling. So no.
