ha ha good point. The thing about all those movies is the genre took on a life of its own. By continuing the Friday the 13th, Halloween and Nightmare on Elms Street movies for instance they knew the movies would make money because of the strong horror audience.
 
The first Halloween (Jamie Lee Curtis) was the one which started the modern phycho-slasher genre.....Hitchcock's "Phycho" notwithstanding.
Most "critics" thought it would bomb out and was too violently vicious.
It became a tremendous success and remains a cult classic.....the great edgey music sound of impending doom...and Blue Oyster Cult's Don't fear the Reaper made it's appearance in the movie.

Familiar with various mistakes in movies...?.......there was at least one which you wouldn't notice unless you knew where and when to look...it involved John Carpenter standing behind a bush watching a scene as "Laurie" (Jamie Lee Curtis) was walking down the sidewalk - well, he was a smoker and was smoking during the scene behind the bushes and you can see a puff of smoke coming from behind the bush "Laurie" passes on her way down the sidewalk ....Carpenter said "fuk it" and they left in the movie. Lol.

That was also like "The night of the living dead" I saw the original when I was about 14,15 at a drive in theater. It was in black & white. Since then they've redone it 2-3 times & had all the "Day of the dead" & "Dawn of the dead". It really got stupid.

The original Night of the Living Dead (Duane Jones) , with George Romero directing was great!

So low budget but it worked. I went to one of those chiller theater conventions one time in North Jersey. Met a lot of the old horror and science fiction folks. Linda Blair was really nice.

It's actually a horror convention these days. They do it in Parsippany, NJ now but it used to be up in Secaucus, NJ.
 
Halloween and Michael Meyers came first....just sayin'.

first horror film I recall was "don't be afraid of the dark".....recently remade.

and I remember seeing Amnityville Horror after seeing the film set in Toms River, NJ as a kid.

Yeah, the movie....but the book was great.

Amityville Horror was definitely a good one.

Final scene from Halloween (1978) was the topper....a natural set-up for Halloween 2 which was surprisingly almost as good as the first one only lacking the newness and originality of the first "masterpiece"...lol

That was another one Vic where they should have stopped after the first one. Same with sequels like "Die hard" the 2nd one was awful but the 3rd "Die hard with a vengence" was actually pretty good. & Rambo ("First blood") definitely should have stopped after the first. As far as the Rocky's they should have stopped after the 2nd one.

I enjoyed them... I laughed my ass off during both of them... It's a glorified B-flick
 
Never got into any of the Godfather movies enough to actually sit down and watch the whole thing... found them to be quite boring

Agree on Rocky 2, But I thought the second Rambo was also good....and should've ended it after that.

Yes, AMC is playing the hell out of Jaws. It's on again right now. "This is not a boat accident" line as I type this.

+> Lee had that face that could never be "good guy" He sort of looked like a cheshire cat. The Good bad and the ugly was classic. I always wanted him to play opposite to Steve McQueen. He should have been the lead in Magnificent 7 not a Euro accent actor named Yul Brenner.

In regards to the actors: is it the actors, the script, the directors or the studio and their accountants?
Difference maker: Joel and Ethan Coen movies are superb. Back in the day the great actors were offered the best scripts and were paid well. Today, in an effort to cut costs, I believe the studios give new on the scene actors a shot with a minimal pay per shoot. Two hundred million dollar movies feature hundreds of techs and the special effects are the best route for a great weekend $$$ draw.
