Anybody experience knee issues?

I just got home from the doctor after messing up my left knee while playing some ball. My knee has been giving out lately when I play ball and plant with my left leg, today I went up for a rebound and the next thing I know is I'm on the ground clutching my knee.

Doctor thinks I have a partial tear in my meniscus and I get to visit the specialist on Monday. It really sucks walking around on crutches.

Anyone ever have their meniscus messed up? What should I expect?

pretty sure i have a little tear in my left knee(probably meniscus)from soccer/weight lifting...pain is tolerable though.

Wasnt the Meniscus the same thing Roy AND Jordan Farmar dealt with this year. I have read about it and IIRC there are two options of dealing with a meniscus. One way, believe it or not, is to simply remove it with surgery. I guess its something that isnt needed, even for athletes. There is very quick recovery doing this option. 3-5 weeks.

The other option is repair. I think with surgery. This takes much more time.

I tore the meniscus in my knee. Depending on way it is injured... it can be pretty minor. I am not sure you knee giving out like your desribe is pointing to meniscus... but the Doc knows best (sounds more like ligament or something). Mine never gave out at all... but I did feel slight catching when I ran. One day I was running in woods up and down and it caught and tore. They scoped it (minor surgery) and eventually I was fine. It did take me some time to trust it though. I can't believe NBA players come back in less than a month from that.

BTW... long term if it was your meniscus... is your knee can be fine. Mine feels better and has never given me trouble since... and I've ran marathons recently.

I've had knee problems. I tore my ACL and along with that tore some meniscus. When the scoped my knee to confirm the MRI about the torn ACL, they also shaved off the parts of the meniscus. Told me it was to avoid sharp pain but I would likely experience arthritis later in life . . . something like that, it was about 15 years ago.

Pretty cool, they taped the whole thing. I watched them find the ligament and the tear (looked like a mop) and I watched as they shaved off the meniscus.

ACL, MCL and a couple of meniscus surgeries. I have no lateral meniscus in my right knee. The ligaments healed fine, but losing the meniscus has been a huge deal--joint deflection, early onset of joint arthritis, etc., etc.

someone fell on my knee while playing hoops a few years ago. hurt like a bitch, didn't do shit about it. probably should have but i hate doctors. its fine now though..sore for a while, knee is a bit weaker....should probably still get it looked at.

Yeah, it's a cure-all. My buddy Jonah broke his elbow one time. He just smoked some weed. It still clicks, but it's cool.

I've had a meniscus tear along with a partial MCL tear for 17 years in my left knee due to a basketball injury. I still probably need to get that fixed at some point, but the pain is inconsistent and only flares up/swells after a really hard day skiing. I had ACL/PCL surgery on my right knee due to a ski accident while competing. What would you like to know?

Have you ever had a piece of your cartilage slip into your joint and lock it up? Before I had it completely removed, it used to happen to me pretty often.

No, my tear isn't that severe. Severe enough that it shows up on an MRI, but not enough to cause much discomfort. The MCL is what really flares up at times and inflames. It's funny, but the old "you can tell when it is cold and rainy" adage seems true about my left knee.

Yep, I never watch the weather--I can always tell when it's going to rain.

YES! I was jet skiing on the Willamette River by myself! I subsequently had to tie up the jet ski, hop on one foot up a giant gang-plank and flight of stairs, drive my (manual) car home, pop a bunch of ibuprofen and wait it out in the the hot-hub for it to loosen. When it finally did decided to unlock, I was like OK, time for surgery.

What to expect?

I tore my ACL in one knee and the MCL in the other.

I injured both while playing ball.

The MCL tear hurt like a bitch and the bone bruise didn't help.

My son just went thru this. He injured his knee wrestling. Several doctors looked at it and attempted to diagnois it. Bottom line. They can't unless they do an MRI. They can only guess. My sons knee hurt like a son of a bitch and he had to wear a brace for two weeks. Once your kneecaps start to move you have suffered a permanent injury. They will always do so and make you more susceptable to difficulties like sprains and tears. Ultimately my sons knee was a sprain. Acupuncture really helped with inflammation and pain. We went every day for three weeks. After a month of rehab he is back on the mats. I hope your injury isn't serious. Until you see your doc, take antiinflammatory meds, ice it, and rest it. No need to "test" it. Sounds like its going to bother you for a while and the less you do to stress it out the quicker it will heal. Strongly reccomend accupuncture. It really helped my son.
