Get a Peloton bike. I love mine. and there are a ton of other workouts on it that you don't do on the bike. But I pretty much only do the ride workouts.
And if he wants a cheaper one, I have a Nordictrack that is basically the same thing as a peloton. If you look them up you can get a brand new one for like half the price. At least a few years ago when I got ours. We like it ok.

I'm not sure how comfy the peloton is but I have to wear butt pads if I ride it because the seat hurts your ass without it.

Thank you so much for sharing. Means a lot to hear of others journeys.
I have been told by many to not go crazy running and working out. That this is such a shock to the system, you need to ease in. Light strength training and walking. I am at the point now where I need to really figure out which workouts are best fo me. I went from nothing to something, but it’s time to step it up in this offseason.

And yes on the not eating carbs……. I have shared on here that I don’t feel I will ever be a kale and cauliflower rice guy (EVEN THOUGH I JUST HAD IT FOR THE FIRST TIME THE OTHER NIGHT)

I think i will always be a portions person. Just limiting the AMOUNT of food I intake, not completely cutting things out. Although I have cold turkey shut out soda and fast food.

Sounds like your health scare at work really woke you up and that’s a good thing right? My friends passing away was definitely one for me. Unfortunately it took something like that to do it. But in a way deep down, I’m doing this for them as well.

By light strength training do you mean with weights?

Are carbs ok if it's wheat bread and wheat pasta and brown rice or is that going to cause weight gain?

I'm all about portions. I used to eat heaping plates, and was overfull. But, more recently I have been working on small portions and being just full or just under. There's like this line where you are like I could stop eating now and be fine. That's where I'm stopping. Or just before that.

I was pretty jarred by last test results. I have been trying to get better with my eating habits and exercise since my high blood pressure diagnosis. I have to do even better.

Both my parents passed away at 65. I'm trying to live longer than that.

Remember there are lots of foods you can eat that are free. Like cucumbers.

A major key is drinking a gallon of water a day. That leads you being less hungry overall. It just sucks at first because you'll probably pee a million times the first couple weeks.

BareBelle protein bars.
Bananas and apples.
Recently after craving cookies and candy because I hadn’t had any at all in 5.5 months found sugar free Oreos and sugar free Reases peanut butter cups. That actually aren’t bad and got some positive reviews. One every now and then they said were fine.

There is a chips company called SIETE.

They have some really good chips I’ll have too.

I have pretty much stopped snacking. It was actually easier the first 3 months than it has been this past 3.

Baked chips are good? No?

Adding protein bars to my list

I don't want to see candy ever again

Coming from my background of pushing myself so hard with workouts, I agree that its best to ease into it. I started this latest journey October of last year and I will say it was much harder this time around physically. I started with family walks and to keep going I would do 30 minute walks. Also as someone mentioned, bikes are good too. I have a bowflex bike from 5 or so years ago that I just keep around in my workout room and id say that really helps too. For me, I think pride gets in the way because I used to do so much more but its all about just doing something. I constantly remind myself and others who are trying to get healthy that something is always better than nothing. Celebrate those little victories/achievements along the way because God knows its good for the soul. But seriously, try a vibration plate and youll thank me later. If you get one on amazon with free returns you can give yourself essentially a free 30 say trial to see if it works for you.

This is something I need to work on. Drinking more water!
Drinking lots of water for sure is a game changer. I noticed over the last couple months during my slump that I was drinking less water and more sugar free drinks. Im thinking it made me crave sugar even more and ive been less motivated during my workouts. I ran out of the sugar free drinks so im gonna refrain for a while because i feel a sense of renewed energy going back to drinking more water.

Dude yeah candy is not good... My weakness is icecream. Its my kryptonite for sure. There are some good low sugar or zero sugar alternatives out there but of course each of our pallets are different. Theres zero sugar hershey bars and other candh bars on the shelves now (saw at Walmart and Fred Meyer). What helps me with chocolate cravings is buying some dark chocolate chips made with no sugar added. Lots of good protein bars on the market today with low to zero sugar too. They can get kinda spendy though.

I am odd. I just don't get prepared food. Except whole grain crackers. My snacks are raw fruit and homemade yogurt.
I am weekday vegetarian and weekend omnivore. Usual breakfast is some kind of legume, vegetables and whole grain. Lunch and dinner salad heavy on vegetables. On weekends eat. a "normal" lunch, really not hungry in the evening. Just have salad.
Sugar free things often have loads of fake ingredients. People spoke of portion sizes. That's important. Don't give up everything you like, just make it a treat. On weekends I have something sweet because I have a raging sweet tooth. Muffin or tea bread that I bake. Not three layer double chocolate cake with fudge frosting and homemade ice cream. Damn, that does sound good!

Is sorbet better? Probably not. Candy and sweets have been my kryptonite, but I am seeing them totally differently now. My body feels disgusted thinking about them.

I'm sitting here reading all of this while enjoying these gooey rich amazingly delicious chocolate bars from @crandc that just came in the mail.

OMFG! So good!

Thank you, Crandc!

Wait, are these healthy chocolate bars or are you trolling us?

Thats good that youre body is doing that though. I think it really all depends on the sugar. There are some really good ice creams out there, just like candy and most anything else, that are low carb and actually have a good amount of fiber. Theyre like 2-3 times the price of regular icecream though but are totally worth it when the cravings kick in. Ill have to look at some of the good stuff that works for me and then share it here. Nuts are a good snack too (be nice). I buy a bag of cashews and/or the mixed nuts at least once a month at costco.

That just reminded me of my other kryptonite... cake.... Specifically Russian layered honey cake that I recently discovered. I will cheat the whole week and just workout a little harder if there was some in my fridge haha.

Yeah, I like cashews and sunflower seeds

Funny. Sunflower seeds about the only nut/seed that doesn't do it for me. Don't hate them. But don't really like either. Love almonds, pistachio, cashews, walnuts, pecans, pumpkin seed, hazelnuts.
Im the same. The big mixed nuts bag at Costco has most of those you mentioned. I usually pick up that bag with a bag of cashews.
