Joined a team and have my first game tomorrow. It's been awhile since I've played ball, pretty excited.

Not sure. They have a a-b league, c league, d league, e league and co ed league.
Trying d league on a team my father in law put together and we shall see how it goes. I'm in ok shape because I run 5k's, but not basketball shape.
I've been playing in a city league down here in Palo Alto. The competition has been a little weak, but it's been fun playing again indoors with refs, clocks, fouls, free throws, etc.
How much is it? I was looking at the Burlingame league and its like $500 for 9 games, probably more for a nonresident (which I am).

That price is ridiculous.
Yeah, it's just an ego thing to show off... like those ridiculous people that buy a BMW instead of a Toyota.

Portlandbasketball.com has been running since the late 90's and they only charge $343 for the whole team. They've also got a pick-to-play option for single players where you pay $10 per game on a night of your choosing.
But that's cool, they can gouge you down there because they know you'll pay it![]()
The prices we were talking about are for the whole team as well. Wow...17% more in Palo Alto! That price is ridiculous! I'm sure it's the same cost to rent the gym and hire refs in Palo Alto as it is in Portland.
Never mind the fact that real estate is almost 10X the price of Portland.
I've never seen somebody so quick to call out "gouging" and claiming "that price is ridiculous", regardless of the product.
Really? Point me to the plethora of other times where I called out gouging? I can think of two times. One being Apple computers and the other being BMW's. So in the five years we've been on this board, I have claimed price gouging a grand total of two times. Wow... I need to slow down!
Nobody said anything about it being the price for the entire team.

You gave two examples from about the last 3 months. I'll just extrapolate and tell you it's been 20 times in five years.
And nobody said anything about it being the price for an individual. You made that assumption so you could start calling out price gouging.
Whatever, don't derail the thread with your beef with me.
You give yourself too much credit... as if somebody really has enough interest to have a beef with you.
The fact that you immediately jumped to "Yeah, it's just an ego thing to show off... like those ridiculous people that buy a BMW instead of a Toyota." And then "I've never seen somebody so quick to call out "gouging" and claiming "that price is ridiculous", regardless of the product." Mean that I annoy you enough to make the argument personal. That, in my mind, constitutes beef.
Did I post anything personal about you? No. I was posting about the topic at hand, which is rec league basketball. I have participated in rec leagues in the past, and $500 seemed like a lot because why would you talk about the cost for the team as a whole? I assumed you would talk about your cost, which makes more sense.
$500 isn't that bad for the whole team because Portlandbasketball.com only offers 7 games, which would be around $49 per game. $500 for 9 games would be around $55.50, which isn't bad.
The nateb show is always on, even with horrible ratings
The dude trolls me about our car argument and it's my fault?
Lighten up Francis, above the fray is the way to stay
I'm not good at that. I've never been able to take the high road. It's not in my nature. If someone wants to call me out, I'll happily argue with them. That's half the fun of posting on a forum. Why post if not to argue about various topics? People take it so personally though.

What are they renting out the Oracle for games?
Thats crazy.
