The Rogue and Umpqua systems are like a completely different world compared to other Oregon rivers. My favorite was fishing for "half pounders" in the Rogue. They are Steelhead that go out to the ocean but come back up stream in 6 months rather than the usual longer time for Steelhead. There are only a handful of rivers that have them. They come up in thick schools and make for a really fun and tasty day.
Is there a specific time of year you find the Half pounders? In the lower river, say around Reedsport?
