Anyone Into Music Mixing / Production?

I've always been interested in music production and mixing etc. But only lately I've started taking bit more of an interest in it. Last weekend I got to talk for a while with one of the Resident DJ's at one of the Clubs I frequent, so that was pretty insightful, and just standing next to the DJ booth watching them do their thing is amazing, its somthing I'd really love to do as a side job.

So far I'm just playing around with mixing, I use DJ Mix Station 3 and Acid Pro 6.0, just trying to master the basics of the programs first, and doing just simple techniques before I start to move up to bigger things.

So is anyone else into Mixing / DJ'ing / Producing ???

I used to DJ when I was like 17. I mainly made mixtapes that I sold to a clothing store that distributed them to all the local record stores. I even managed to get a weekly show on a local college station for the summer. I had a few club jobs and I spun at a break dance contest 2 years in a row, but that wasn't really my thing because I wanted to mix, not just play ****.

Once I got a little older, I had less time for it and eventually gave it up. I kinda miss it, though.

I don't know much about DJing and what not, but I have mixed songs before (for dances and such), and I used to produce my own beats before. My programs were Fruity Loops (wierd name though) for the actual instrumentals, and Cool Edit for the ultimate mixing (as in sound quality). I'm not really naturally musically inclined, but it was still fun making them. I eventually got better at it after a year or so, but then I began to lose interest. I'll link up one of my best beats (it was a collabo with my much-better producing friend though) if anyone's really interested.

That's cool though that you're getting into it. I've never even tried using Acid Pro, from what I heard it's a lot like Cakewalk, if you've heard of that program. That might not be true though. Either way, have fun with it.

I used to DJ in high school and college. I just don't have the time to do it now, but I still have my Techniques in the garage and my record crates.

It's an addicting hobby mixing and record shopping. Not only do you want to get all the new songs, you also spend time finding the classic records, exclusives, re-mixes etc.

I recommend you try learning how to mix instead of buying that PSP. LOL.

I'm not familiar at all with the software you're talking about. The only one I've heard about is Cool Edit.

There was a used record store called Luke's that I used to go to and spend hours looking through their basement. They literally had a million old records from Frank Sinatra to Grandmaster Flash. They used to charge a dollar a record , so I'd live in there trying to find rare and old school stuff. I also used a sampler, so I'd buy old funk/disco records, trying to find good beats for looping.

Other than those lucky finds, it was really expensive to keep up with. Not only do you have to buy all the new stuff that comes out, but you have to buy 2 copies.

I remixed Tool's Jambi twice with Garageband. Aside from that, I'd love to get into it but as others have said, it's just time consuming. Here's those two mixes...
