Here's the deal. I have a very old, but very good quality, German-made, Onkyo TX-15 FM Stereo/AM Tuner/Amplifier. Attached to it is a turntable (I said very old) and really good speakers.
I want to add a CD player to the assembly. I have a portable and a car CD player. I have some albums on both LP and CD and the sound quality of LP's played on the stereo system, even with the scratches, is incomparably better than that of CD's played on car/portable.
Problem is that the amp is so old I'm not sure if the standard connectors of a modern CD player would fit. The store where I bought the system no longer exists. There are at least a dozen car stereo places within 10 miles of where I live but no home stereo stores. I can get a well-rated Sony CD player from Circuit City online for about $100 but don't know if it will fit the system. And there is no one to ask. All there is are big box stores like Target and Best Buy where they just don't know anything. I could get a Bose stand alone; they are supposed to be good but are also quite expensive and I'd rather add a component to my existing system.
Anyone know enough about old stereos to be able to recommend a CD player I can hook up to my system? There are jacks for another component, just not sure if they will fit a modern CD player.
