Anyone miss Stotts?

I'm not sure I'd say that I miss him.

He clearly wasn't the problem back then, but became the scape-goat for the casuals.

Not at all. He’s a mediocre-at-best coach.

Only fucking idiots think he’s a good coach.

Did he get more out of his rag tag misfits surrounding Dame?

The grass isn't greener holds true at times.
Do you miss Olshey too?!? Those dudes had a decade to try and win and they tread the waters of mediocrity almost the entire time. You don't get to stay one of the longest tenured coaches in the league when you don't win any games past the second round of the playoffs.

There is a reason he hasn’t been hired in a league that constantly plays coach merry-go-round.

And he’s hardly even received interviews.

The guy is booty cheeks at coaching and the league seemingly agrees with my stance.

Lakers, Hornets and Jazz from what I recall.

Got passed over for new HCs from what I recall as well.

Didn’t receive a single HC interview this cycle either.

I'm a huge fan of Terry...like the way he handled coaching a lot and how he managed games. He could have played rookies more but he didn't have a lot to work with out of 179 different players. I'm real happy he's with the Bucks...my favorite team in the east. I lost some confidence in Chauncey this season..he has to show me he can coach an endgame...Stotts could coach an endgame and an OT game as well as any coach out there.

I don't miss not making the playoffs for years on end...Terry just ran up against an era of Warriors domination and they beat everybody..the worst playoff in the Stotts era was the Pelicans smackdown..that one he got flat outcoached as he did his last season against the Nuggets...it wasn't all on him though...you have to make buckets to win. Terry seriously never had a bench and had to play the starters big minutes to win games...by playoff time they get gassed. That's roster composition

Nope. Great guy and wish him well in MIL.

It took Will Barton getting traded to Denver and no one being available at guard for CJ to get minutes. He rode his starters too hard and did not allow players on the end of the bench to grow.

These are some weird narratives.
  • CJ had injuries to start his career and was behind Wes Matthews, who got a max contract based off how well he played in Portland.
  • He was starting guys that were end of the bench players elsewhere and actually made the majority of them the most productive they've ever been
  • Very very few of the players he didn't play much went elsewhere to be significant contributors. As noted before, the opposite was more likely to happen.

Great guy, but like Chauncey he is not the coach to get us a few more wins. Talent trumps coaching, but there are probably 10 or so games a year where coaching can either win or lose you games

Ah, I miss these discussions, where you attribute players looking good here to Stotts without specific reasons, while I attribute them to Dame (and to a lesser extent, CJ) being able to generate them open looks.

People need to move on.

Not sure what your definition of a good coach is? Pretty sure if a guy has been in and around the league as long as Stotts who also happens to have a championship ring he a good coach. I'm also betting you could ask most any of the players he coached other than maybe Nurk who doesn't seem to like any coach what they felt about him and they would disagree with you.

This conversation will continue while Billups continues to underperform. IMHO Chauncey has one more year to get things going. If he cannot make it out of the lottery again then it might be time to move on. Blazers need to upgrade the roster then either perform with Chauncey or go after a top notch coach.
Unfortunately we might be stuck in this cycle until we see new ownership.

Tough being a Blazer fan sometimes.

Yes, Blazers need to upgrade the roster. However, if they don't, it will be difficult to blame Chauncey for another lottery berth.

No. I look forward to missing people bringing him up as if he coached the team to great heights and multiple trips to the finals tho.

No....because he would have coached them to a 1st round Playoff sweep and we wouldn't have Sharpe or Scoot.
