Before the season began there was a lot of talk as to whether Brittney Griner was really a woman, and even more talk as to whether she* could play in the NBA. Well her* rookie year is now over and she* posted decent numbers

12.6 PPG, 6.4 REB, and 3 BLK while shooting over 50%.

However, despite her* dominance in college and size advantage she* came in 14th in rebounding well behind the 11.5 per game posted by the league leader. She* was 25th in scoring well behind the 21.5 of the league leader. She* did however lead the WNBA in Blocks.

While I personally never felt like Griner could succeed in the NBA I still am a little shocked that she* did not do more to dominate in her* rookie WNBA season.

Is there any women capable of playing in the NBA?

PS. for those of you who might wonder why I included so many asterisks.

The apparent adam's apple that appears in every Griner photo makes me as suspicious of her* as I am that Barry Bonds was on the juice. Therefore, like with Bonds numbers I included the asterisk.

If there's a girl that can knock down NBA 3s at a crazy rate, I think it might work, like a jimmer but better

smh

I don't suspect we will ever see a female NBA big, but a sharp shooting, deft passing PG is a possibility.

I'm going to merge this with the Kelly Olynyk thread.

This had me dying from laughing so hard on the bus. Got quiet a few awkward looks. I'm going rep this post when I get home.

I think eventually if there is a woman who's a lights out shooter and passer she could make it. Think of a guy like Steve Nash, he wasn't that athletic just insanely skilled with a high IQ. I think there are woman who come close to his athleticism.

I'm a fan of Blazer Fanatic. But she'll have to tone down the toughness or the wimpy players will kick her out of the NBA.

No

But I wonder sometimes if I could hang in wnba after a sex change op.

Wasn't there an olympian in some sport that did that? That would be a hell of a sacrifice to realize my dream of playing pro basketball.

so..... is the jury still out on the adam's apple, or what? is Brit a hermaphrodite or some other special gender situation? either way I don't look down at Brit, but it is an odd/curious scenario.

Maybe sly has the right idea

See no adam's apple or body hair

I read that three times, and I have to say I still don't get any of this gibberish.

On a serious tip...... you know why they never will?

Because a player like Armon Johnson or Luke Babbitt would go to the WNBA and average 60 a night. 'Nuff said.

I was with you up to the Babbitt inclusion.

Some lady baller might have those attributes and make the grade... ... ... until the first time someone like Amir Johnson sets a man type pick on her. :devilwink:

No.

Is this a serious question, or just an excuse to call Griner's gender into question? I didn't know there was talk seriously questioning if she was a woman before the season. She does look rather man-ish, but that's not really evidence...

Edit: I feel like I should add that I don't follow the WNBA at all.

It was a seriously question for like 2 weeks after Cuban suggested he would give her* a training camp invite.

Personally though Griner should have tried out for the NFL instead after they got rid of the tuck rule.

every one of the players in the nba would be the mvp of the wnba

Steve Nash was incredibly quick.

It's not her Adam's apple which makes me think she's a guy. It's her penis.

Last time I saw the Globetrotters in Eugene they had a female player. They've always been ahead of the curve...ambassadors of goodwill! I see no reason a female couldn't compete in the NBA...it would be tougher for male atheletes to adjust than the female athletes in my view. Then could men play in the WNBA? (Luke Babbit for example) Could Djokovic play Serena Williams for a Wimbledon title? ?Could Tiger Woods play on the women's golf tour? I don't think it's such a question of could they, but more why would they want to?

There was a woman pro tennis player who was a man before she wasn't.

Renée Richards (born August 19, 1934) is an American ophthalmologist, author and former professional tennis player. In 1975, Richards underwent sex reassignment surgery. She was denied entry into the 1976 US Open by the United States Tennis Association, citing an unprecedented women-born-women policy. She disputed the ban, and the New York Supreme Court ruled in her favor in 1977. This was a landmark decision in favor of transsexual rights.
