I'm really curious what the implications are for our eyes.

I think working at a computer every day for hours and hours has wrecked my vision. So what is gonna happen when the screen in a couple inches from your eyes? Similar to how earbuds are pretty bad for your hearing.

Does this kill the television eventually?

Great points. And yes, I think it will kill television. Unless people deem the headsets as too uncomfortable.

At $3500 each I don't think television has to worry for quite a while. Especially with those freaking goggles. Put that in my glasses (even if they have to be a bit thicker frames) and drop the price to under $1k and yeah, now you're talking. The price will come down. The hard part is going to be making it smaller and comfortable.

Yeah. That's how much it cost me to build my gaming computer. I know that computer is going to last me a while. Just not sure how much I would use that headset honestly.

Given it's basically a Mac Book Pro with two 4K displays included, $3500 doesn't feel completely incorrect from a parts and labor standpoint but wow it really drives home that Apple is moving on from a primarily American customer base to one that has more money to spend... these will probably be a hit in China and Dubai, where people have money.

I'm going to wait until they can shrink this down into regular glasses. One day that will be possible. Putting that thing on my head is like going out and buying one of those massive projector TVs that you can't even give away these days.

You'd need the gaming computer AND the headset. And if you wanted to enjoy it with your family they EACH need a headset. No thanks.

They don’t mention whether or not two people can watch together if they both have a headset. It’s like it’s only for single people. They’ll figure it out. The technology is amazing.

Ten years from now, if this becomes popular, they’ll sell for $200 or less.

After watching the entire WWDC my questions were answered about the 15” mb air, but I was also blown away by the possibilities of the vision pro.
Don’t know if I will buy one next year but I was still greatly impressed nonetheless.

Not unless/until there's a communal version. Sure, it'll be a superior immersive experience for an individual, but more often than not, if I'm watching TV, I'm watching with members of my family.

Agreed.

Everything my family owns is Apple and this wasn’t even a blip on the radar! I’m about as loyal as they come to their products and I have NO interest in owning something like this, even if it was 1/4 of the price!

It's for rich people, just like the first iPhone was. C-level executives will be impressed, but they're idiots who have way more decision making power than they have critical thinking skills.

Yep, those fools who bought into the iPhone early on. It was obvious the iPhone would never amount to anything.

I got those Playstation VR goggles a while back. Have used them 3 times in 3 years.

It seems obvious in retrospect but that first iPhone was... not even 33% of what even the 3G was, let alone the 4 or 4S where things really picked up, and it was *fucking expensive*. It's easy to say "oh yeah the iPhone was always going to be huge" but like, it was underpowered and expensive, and didn't seem that useful yet. But, it was designed for rich people, and once the lower-cost, better version came out later, it was something.

I am absolutely not saying this will fail; I'm saying they're using the same playbook, that's all.

Ok, so we're clear... you're comparing the utility of having a tiny computer in your pocket to the utility of wearing some ski goggles?

I think eventually the technology will advance to the point where it's functionally realistic, but this model looks stupid. But there's really two different things. This seems more like augmented reality, whereas oculus is VR. I don't like that they're trying to combine them.

I would wear augmented reality glasses if they were roughly the same size as my actual glasses. If I wanted VR, I would want something that completely changes my surroundings. I don't know what the technology is going to need to hit before that's really possible. The way that VR has been portrayed in the movies is someone feeling like they're really there. Not sure how you go about making that possible without jacking directly into the computer

I was mostly just having fun, but seriously that's how most tech launches work. The early, buggy, large/heavy/ugly/slow version is sold to early adopters who have the money, time, and interest to put up with a few warts because they see some potential. Then, if development proceeds, better cheaper faster prettier versions come out that appeal to more people.

Why do you think I don't know this?

I don't know what you do or don't know - but your original comment suggested that you thought that early adopters of tech are idiots. Maybe I misunderstood, though.
