Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

I hear that 97% of Americans believe in god...but only a small handfull go to church...most of them don't know much about Christianity or it's history...I laugh whenever I hear that America is a Christian god worshiping country...Most people just say they believe in jesus/god and thats it.... We live in a nation of Christian posers.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

About 40-50% of American Cristians fgo to church at least once a month, the most in any western nation. So no they are not posers lol

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

It still doesn't matter...a majority of 'god believers' don't know much about Chrisitanity...it's pathetic.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

Yea i find that true also, i ask my freind what religion are they and they look at me with a blank face " Christian", im like... yes i know that but which one " Ummm.. i really dont know i rarely go to church" Saddens me. FYI i just read your post on what god you belive in and im glad to say its the same here

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

Yes. Half the time, I could care less what religion I am. The same is true for all of my friends, except a couple..Were a careless nationI go to a Private-Catholic School, so I do know alot about religion. But most of it, I find boring and worthless.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

Why do you go to a Catholic school if you find it pointless?

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

A Christian poser? wtf. IMO it is not a matter of how many times you go to church, it is a matter or faith. Some people, like me, do not have time to go to church every Sunday. That does not mean they are posers, that means they do not have the time. I mean sure over the centuries we have gone less and less commited to our religion in our daily lives, but that does not mean we are posers.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

I'm not saying they are posers because they don't go to church, i'm just pointing that out...most people that claim they believe in god don't do anything when it comes to doing christian things..etc..

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

If you mean like they do not celebrate Easter, Christmas, etc. then they are not Christians basically. If you are Christian, you should celebrate Christian holidays.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

Im not a Christian poser. Im a Lutheran and im getting confirmed in less than a month which should be cool.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

IMO if you are going to follow a religion you should do it properly. Christians should go to church every sunday, Muslims should pray 5 times a day etc. I hate it when people say they are religious but really have no idea about their religion. They only really believe in god because they are told he is real when they are kids.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

Yeah, but Christians worship once a week, Muslims 35 times a week. I miss 1-2 prayers per day, though, a couple of times, 3

..but I always pray Asr, Mughrib, and Isha.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

I actually dont like people that are too into god, I dont believe in the bible(i hate atheists who never even read the bible though ), and that's not why.I do like the spiritual part of it, making people better people, but some people take it too seriously, like when you cant say anything to them without hearing about god, or they wont do anything wrong cuz they'll go to hell. You gotta find a balance of belief and obsession. So i like the more casual christian, not forcing beliefs on you, because we all know what happened the last time that happened.(manifest destiny, slavery)

Do I have to read every religious book and THEN make up my mind? No.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

There's a difference in believing in God and being a Christian. I believe there is a God up there, but I don't believe his legacy is defined, recorded, or kept in the Bible. Some of it might be true, but I simply belive a God created us, and let us be. I don't buy Christian philosophies

</div>Believing in religion makes people superior now?Anyway, yeah. I think most Christians are "posers," so to speak. Most of them have their faith handed down to them, just like their political views, what college they want to go to, blah blah blah. The point is, they are told why they should believe in something as youths. Maybe not even why, but usually just that they should. My personal problem was that I felt that the only reliable source of Christian doctrine is the Bible. Oh sure, there's other texts out there, but I wouldn't put any faith in them. Some people see the Bible as a "spiritual guide," filled with allegories, figures of speech, and metaphors to convey some sort of story. I just can't see how someone can put their faith in something like that. When I was a Christian, I certainly had faith that the Bible was true. (I didn't believe that the Bible was true only because it said so, by the way.) For some reason, it irks me when a person quotes a Bible verse in their AIM profile and puts something about getting wasted in their away message. I don't know, certainly people will disagree with me.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

I think if you are atheist you should read religious books then decide, maybe not the bible and stuff but books about the bible (to save time) - as long as you get the theoretical point of view of the religion

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

If you are atheist then you have decided. You don't believe in a god and thats fine. If atheists should read religious books and then decide then so should everyone.

Re: Are American 'Christians' a bunch of posers?

i'm a christian and i believe in god. i go to church every sunday and i know the history behind chrisianity. Jesus died on the cross for our sins and rose up from the dead. and for a person to call us posers i take offense to that. i don't think it's fair for you, BCB, to call christians posers. that's just not right.<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE (BCB @ May 28 2006, 09:54 PM) <{POST_SNAPBACK}></div><div class='quotemain'>I'm athiest and never read the bible...why should I? He was pointing out that alot people call themselves christians, yet don't go to chuch very often and don't really know that much about their religion.
