Are the blazers showcasing Bayless?

I'm so hesitant on giving up on Jerryd right now if we do trade him. He's really going to be a special backcourt mate for Brandon when he gets a little more experience. The game still seems to be going a little fast for him, but when he really gets comfortable and gets his jumper going.... man, he's going to be scary.

Agreed. I put him almost in the same tradeability (not a word, I know) level as the big 3. Not quite, but very close; unless we return a guaranteed starting PG under the age of 28, I don't think we can let him go.

In know there's been a lot of talk about an untradable big-3, but I personally would add Batum and Bayless to that group as a big 5. They are all such rare and unique talents that trading any one of them would leave a hole very difficult to fill.

Let me know what you think about this trade we get to keep Bayless!

Orlando gets rid of Peitrus, who is repetitive with Lee emerging and the Magic intent on resigning Hedo who is a FA. Orlando also gets a PG in Blake to play out the year for them since they are missing Nelson and they get a plethora of frontcourt depth for the playoffs since their greatest complaint is a weak bench. Philly rounds out its team for the future while opening up Cap space. They get Sergio for the future PG and Petri as a wild card. They also recieve Frye to help down low and outside shooting from Reddick and Cook, they get Raef and clear out a lot of vets who have no future with the team.

Portland does this because they get to condense tallent without giving up that much. Throw in a few draft pick if Orlando or Philly complains

I put Batum a notch below Bayless, in that a starting SF under the age of 28 is not terribly tough to find, whereas a PG with the same criteria would be.

I'm weary on trading Koponen. I think he could be a much better player than either Blake or Hinrich. Koponen is reportedly at 6'5 now. That's an extremely rare attribute for a pure PG. He was also the second best player in Portland's Summer League.

So basically, we turn Blake/Serg/Raef into Miller/Green? Meh--I think we can do better.

and he was the best PG

how often do first round picks get traded in their rookie seasons? very rarely. so i wouldn't expect roy, aldridge, or the rookies to go anywhere.

nobody on this team is untradeable, it would take ALOT to pry Roy away and it would take a MAJOR deal for LA or Oden but that's it. if we can upgrade for a proven stud, anyone and everyone is available. to get value you have to give up value.

I think we're all underestimating the value of raef, channing and ike's expiring contracts. If KP has enough patience, an offer not involving Bayless will be sure to present itself before the deadline for a quality player.

With the way the economy is running, teams are cost-cutting left and right.

He was OK in summer league, but struggled mightily with his shot and didn't have much success running the offense (probably lack of bigs to throw it in to).

Kopo's a nice thought, but if the margin between getting a deal done for a quality starting point guard or a wing is Petteri, you pull the trigger and don't look back.

I think Koponen will be a very good starter one day. I would not deal him. He show a lot more PG skills in SL than Bayless did and it wasn't even close. I could live with Bayless being dealt in the deal with the thought of Koponen coming over in a few years.

Ugh, Koponen isn't a deal breaker for me. He's looked like a decent backup point guard in the NBA, but that's about it. He's nothing special. Average passing skills, average shot, average defender, average vision, etc.

If a team is holding out on a deal because of Koponen then we shouldn't hesitate to do the deal. He has never even stepped a foot on an NBA court.

Waiting for Koponen in two years over Bayless now? Yikes...
