Trevor Ariza's agent David Lee said Monday that the Lakers won't receive a hometown discount from his client.

Lee declined to reveal how much of a raise Ariza will seek when he becomes an unrestricted free agent, but he said his client should make him the most coveted wing player on the market.

Among the teams Lee expects to pursue Ariza are Detroit, Portland and Toronto.

"It's a question of how committed the Lakers are to competing again," Lee said. "If everyone else stood still, you could see what happens when a piece is missing, but the reality is teams out there are positioning themselves to be competitive. When other teams are getting better, you can't afford to rest on your laurels."

I can see a team offering Ariza a Corey Maggette type of contract (5/50m). If anything, it'll just make the Lakers spend more money to keep him :devilwink:

There aren't many teams that can even offer that type of a contract.

Out of those teams, who do you think would offer Ariza that type of contract? No one.

Does Ariza's agent get to play for us too if we sign him?

When I said 'some teams,' I meant us.

KP is slowly, but surely, increasing our cap with moves.

5/50m, Lakers, call KP's bluff :ghoti:

However, I fully expect the Lakers to retain Ariza. David Lee is going to use teams under the cap to up the price for his client. The opportunity is there, why not make the Lakers overpay? :devilwink:

Lakers won't match if it goes that high. No chance.

Anything above MLE, he most likely leaves.

If you want the Blazers to offer that ridiculous contract, he is all yours.

No way Buss matches that.

Ariza is good, not $10 million/year good.

Anything above the MLE? are you kidding?

Considering how he played last season and the playoffs, I'm pretty sure David Lee will seek quite a bit more than the MLE.

That is Brian.

I don't think the Lakers should offer anything more than $7 million. If he gets something more than that, then gladly let him walk. More money to bring Odom back with.

I'd puke if the Blazers took him on for $8-10 mil a year for a role player. I doubt Ariza leaves LA and I doubt he gets the contract he wants. But I hope his agent is dumb enough to play hardball and leave the Lakers for Toronto or Detroit.

If Colangelo can't come to a reasonable deal with Marion, I could see him sign/trading him away and using the resulting cap space to offer Ariza something over the MLE.

Is that what he wants?

Sure he hit a few big threes, but damn that is nuts.

Not sure if I am prepared to have the 5th best player on the team be the highest paid.

Actually, I am completely sure I don't want that.

You know I have seen 10 million per year come up a lot. Like all the agents got together and said 10 million is their mark. The only guy I see getting 10 million per season is Turkoglu. All the rest of those players can go fuck themselves if they think they are worth 10 million.

Ariza and Miller seem to be the most delusional.

I haven't seen anywhere that says Gortat is looking for 10 million.

I have no idea what Artest is looking for.

Chad Ford estimates our cap will be around $8.7m.

If we renounce Koponen and Freeland, that'll push our cap to around $10m.

Ariza is a role player, and is clutch, I can see KP going after him hard. Over Turkoglu? Ariza's age (24) fits our long term plan.

If KP wants him, we can probably have him:

Trevor's' camp is said to be looking for a deal in the $8 to $9 million per season range, which in and of itself may price Lamar Odom out of the Lakers' budget, as Ariza is considered the most important player to retain this summer.
