Seems like an appropriate place

the blows to the hornets this summer have been maddening.

- lose in the play in.
- fired a promising coach who was holding shit together.
- harrell gets busted with a shit ton of weed.
- lamelo puts up a picture of him smoking weed on social.
- bridges puts up a picture of him drinking what looked like lean on social.
- they go through an arduous coaching search and get a commitment from a guy only to be left at the altar a week after.
- they re-hire a coach they fired years ago for incompetence.
- they give away a lottery pick for god knows what, while still retaining their shit contracts.
- bridges gets arrested for domestic violence on the eve of him agreeing to a near-max deal.

At least they got that NO pick that we were supposed to get...

i still can’t believe they gave away jalen duren for a worse future pick and instead took mark Williams

The thing is that the only thing that's a real danger (unless what Bridges did was actually severe) is the Harrell situation which I think a high paid lawyer will get a plea on that will either have him avoid jail time or have it suspended until the offseason. What I'm saying is their promising young roster is intact. The coaching situation has to be worrying if you're a Hornets fan though.

Bridges might be a benefit for them it came out before they agreed to a number. Can't believe the guy is so stupid to put himself in this situation days before locking up ~$90 million.

They are all moves that reflect poorly on the franchise. All of them are smoke of underlying issues. Sort of like the jail Blazers era, sure you can try to justify or explain away any single incident. Well run organizations and healthy balanced people don't find themselves in such a number of these situations.

Too bad Jabari Parker had injury issues. He had a lot of promise.

League would be different if he had been able to stay healthy, would likely be an All-Star. We could have seen a dominant Bucks team with Parker, Giannis, and Middleton. Hard to tell though, based on how the dominoes fall. Who knows what else would have been different otherwise.

In his 9th season now, he is a FA; so it may be his last. One of the most unfortunate/disappointing situations in the last 10 years.

Still far behind Len Bias. Interestingly Parker last played for BOS.

For the minimum there isn't really much risk

Gobert and Towns?!?
Word, I thought that too…

It’s interesting… Sounds a lot like Towns being in an LMA type roll. Which could be scary if successful.

KAT has great range. I don’t know that his mid range is at as high a % as LMA was; but his 3P at volume is better.

I wondered why they did this… Maybe KAT wants to be more like that and was upset about his role as a 5. T-Wolves want to keep him so they do what they can. If that’s the case, this is great for them to fit that style.

Anthony Edwards / Towns/ Gobert trio is pretty solid. Don’t sleep on the T-Wolves. NBA is deep right now. No game will be easy and the worst team in either conference can beat you by 10 if you don’t play like you need to win.

Oh, I don't think the offensive end is where it will hurt them. KAT is a pretty mobile 5 but he can't keep up with the vast majority of 4s in the league. Gobert is already getting played off the court by smallball lineups. Unless you have two freak athletes like Ben Simmons or Giannis, twin towers don't make sense in today's NBA. I mean that's my take but I guess we'll be finding out.

whats wrong with lámelo smoking weed?

If you can afford to fill the spot of “hardly ever plays, but may be productive off the bench”.

Which we would rather fill with our younger players.

For Minnesota to succeed they need a good passer in the starting lineup. D'Angelo Russell isn't the answer.

That could be really good or it could go bad.
High bust potential especially given all of the lost future assets.

The Clippers are going to be great (if healthy) but the West feels pretty open, still. Probably a good time to take a big chance.

their should be a 3rd category; "bonus: championships". wins are great and all but mean jack shit without a championship.
would you rather pay jokic for 20 wins (and an early playoff outing) or steph for 15 wins and a chip?
seems like a stupid model

Well if it doesn't work maybe the Wolves will rebuild with their draft picks..... uh oh.

Thats a great graph. Yes rookie contracts provide the most value. KD and LeBron provide the least from this group. I've wondered that with the KD trade speculation, I'm not sure how much value he will really provide to a team that acquires him, plus the age and injury history.

This would be even more important if there was always a strict hard cap, but with Warriors/Clippers/Nets/etc paying so much tax they don't need the best value per win.

Warriors might look very different if they couldn't outspend all the other teams. They'd probably have to remove two of Wiggins/Draymond/Klay.

Careful slamming KD on the basis of this chart until you see where Dame falls.
Plus, Jokic just got the largest contract in NBA history...

I'm assuming this was last season so where Dame 'fell' doesn't mean much. This e-wins stat...not sure how it's derived, but for Dame:

2018 - 17.4
2019 - 16.7
2020 - 16.1 (adjusted to 82 games)
2021 - 16.7 (adjusted to 82 games)

so, an average of 16.73 over those 4 seasons. That average would rank 3rd on that chart behind Jokic and Embiid, but ahead of Giannis, Curry, and Tatum

I would have compared 4 season stretches for the other top players but they are hidden behind yet another paywall

when are payroll numbers considered for tax purposes? is it at the end of the season?

we are about 3.5 mil above the tax line right now if we waive Bledsoe's 3.9 mil (and no contract yet for Walker). I think we need to contextualize any additions to the roster with tax implications. Adding Roby would mean we would have to get rid of Keon/Didi eventually to duck under. It seems that is a priority now for this poverty franchise.

It's at the last day of the regular season.
