so we'd still have time to get off contracts if ducking tax is indeed is a goal. bring on roby!

wonder how high we are on the waiver list.
It's reverse standings. The worst team has highest priority.
Portland is essentially 5th in line (since OKC cut him). Houston, Orlando, Detroit, & Indiana are the only ones who can claim him first. (assuming Portland submits a claim).

Orlando has a ton of forwards already, but I think the other teams could claim him ahead of us.

From strictly watching his highlights, I thought Roby looked a little slow to cover the perimeter and a little small to play center.
Good shooter though.

Everything I've read made it sounds like his defense was trash. He has a positive DBPM, but I dunno. Thought he'd make an intriguing flyer.

was just a 1.9 mil caphit. woulda added size to our woefully short front court.

he's better than all our backup bigs.

if you look at wings, he's better than didi (1.5 mil) and keon (2.7 mil). arguable he's better than nas (4.1 mil).

writing is on the wall for our motives this summer : duck the tax.

I doubt Nas would have been waived by OKC so they can get down to 19.
Roby may be better than what we have on the bench at C/PF, but he is still not good enough.
Let's hold out until at least after summer league. See if there are any surpises

mostly because nas makes double the salary. but stats are all in favor of roby:

Yeah, I can't debate this until I see Roby play a few games. I just know I like Nas and Roby did not impress Presti enough to kep from getting waived. Somehow I am not too upset over losing out on him. Maybe Chauncey wants someone more athletic?

that's fair. but i just don't like the indications we're getting from the team so far. the tax is not that punitive that they need to avoid it.

Seems like if they were really that concerned about going over the tax, they would not have added GP2.
I think they are holding out for one more big that can play defense.

on the other hand, if there actually was a prior agreement to ship Bledsoe to Detroit, the Blazers are under the tax line...probably

Isaiah Roby? We didn’t even make an offer $1.9……SERIOUSLY?

You say that like I am supposed to be impressed by him. Seems like this is a little bit contradictory to your normal "defense"
requirement.
He’s had a positive defensive rating the last two years. 6’8” with a 7’3” wingspan. A PER well above average. Shot 44% from 3 on 2 attempts per game

asinine not to get him

The way it is, with all of the announced signings, we'll be under the tax even if we pay Bledsoe's entire 3.9M. We should be just under 148.3M with the tax at 150M. People are just wondering if we'll stretch Bledsoe over three seasons so we have 2.6M more in room under the tax to sign a guy in the buyout market.

I think one thing using more than the TPMLE on GP2 did was hard cap us and give Joe a talking point of "Can we really make the difference this season with 6M between where we're at and a championship? If not, why go into the tax when we have a roster we really like, that has room to grow in the future?"

The estimate I saw - Portland was ~$2M below the apron... but over the tax line.

I think you're incorrect here

He’s fine but no great loss. Would have liked to see him picked up but not mad at it.

You have to think based on this and a lack of other moves that they have something planned for backup 3/4.

Our 2nd round pick, I imagine he made a mistake, had Jabari, and thought of Jabari Parker, instead of Walker.
I think he's getting a two way contract so no cap hit but who knows. Also to clear up misconceptions let's call the Son of Sam... aki. It's like he's a real killer... on the court. I thought he could have been talking about Jabari Walker but only after looking on spotrac like six times, thinking... did I miss someone?

yeah...I meant Walker...sue me

I really doubt they'll put a 2nd round pick on a two-way contract

how often has that happened?
