No it's racial. Black people tend to value material things because we don't have them. When someone was wearing some Volume/Payless shoes they were instantly stung on.

You had to be clever and come up with something funny to say. I really think this is where battle rap was born.
Totally agree. They used to get me for my fake Izod shirts. Moms got me the Le Tigre!

After the influx of Vietnamese in the early 80's things changed at Madison. A lot of families moved out of the area. Not sure if any of you are old enough to remember the racial wars there? Literally hundreds of Vietnamese students were thrust into the school in a couple years. Some of those students weren't even kids. They were 20-30 year old boat people. It was a tough thing for all to deal with.
Where did they park their boats? Up by the park, or down by the baseball field! HA!

I think Madison is now 5A instead of 6A? Do they still have the PIL as a division?
They are 6A. Yes they tried messing with the PIL league for a few years, but now it's back to how it was back in the day, as it should be.

State champs in basketball my junior year and state champs in football my senior year young man.
Suburban schools just don't impress me sir. Wherever you went I'm quite sure had 10X the school district my Grant Generals have for example.

If we had that much space to draw talent from we would be even better than we are now. There are 5 schools in the place here. Thinning the talent pool that much more.

4 four straight years our hoop team either won the championship or played for it. And the other kids we played against all went to middle school with us and should have been at Grant. But they transferred across the river or to other schools to get playing time.

Mark Radford played for Grant when I went to school. Great player.

JOHNNY STIGLER.

Radford and Grant beat us in the state quarterfinals. Then they got beat by Danny Ainge's North Eugene team. There was some hella good players back then.

Ainge I think is arguably the best all round athlete to come out of Oregon. Dominated in all three sports.

Played football with Johnny. Amazing athlete. Even better curl!!! #SoulGlow

Before I refereed he was the highest jumper I'd ever seen. At lunchtime he would go up to dunk, lay it in, and pat the top line of the square. Jumpin' out the GYM.

The HCP remembers you!
I didn't go to Central, but I lived close to it. I went to Buckman, and probably would
have gone to Washington (err, Washington-Monroe) if we hadn't move. I did briefly
consider Benson and yes, Grant, but Grant was pretty far away.

BTW, do you know where the thread you made of me with the picture of Mike Barrett is?
I haven't been able to find it since a certain dog changed the title from the memorable
"Wizard Nerd".

They were driving Trans Ams. They would get money from the government and their whole family would live in a single apartment then they would all pitch in on a brand new TA.
They were used to living in one room huts. A two bedroom apartment was a palace to them.

I tell people from Boston that Ainge was from Eugene and they don't believe. "I thought he was from Utah." Same with Love. "He wants to go back to UCLA and his hometown." :smiley-pat:
I think a main reason the Ducks don't recruit local athletes as much is because they can't wait to get the fuck outta Dodge.

Pfft. A bunch of nerds from Portland now think their high-school teams belong in the "Around the NBA" thread. Can't wait to hear about your middle-school all-star dunk contest.

Kevin Love was born in Santa Monica CA. He is not an Oregon boy.

Gonna start posting weekly recaps for my (as Kingspeed put it) "Shitty YouTube show that nobody watches!".
This was for last week so it's late but I plan to come out with these every Sunday.
