Art Alexakis, lead singer of Everclear, recenty moved back to his hometown in SoCal after living in Portland for almost two decades.

I came across a few interviews and articles -- why was he so disliked in the city? "Art Alexakis - Portland's most hated musician." Was it because his band was referred to as "Portland's Everclear" when they were all L.A. guys?

I hear he beat up his ex. Another big time Portland band member who was "cooler" dated her as well. This may have something to do with why he wasn't liked in the local music scene.

I once delivered some home furnishings to his house and he tipped me $20. He seemed pretty nice to me.

On another note, I wonder if this is the first linking of Art Alexakis and Rodney King.

Art was hated in Portland?

By who?

And how can a guy from Virginia, and a guy from Spokane be "LA" guys?

I just pulled up an obscure reference in Oregon race relations from the early 90s as you did with LA

I'm not sure that Rodney King is exactly an obscure reference here.

I had to google him

That is sad. And I mean that sincerely. How anyone who lives during the 90's doesn't remember who Rodney King is is sad. What, were you on LSD during your high school days?

Yes.

Actually I was joking but in Oregon, Metzger and the OCA was just as big of a story

I was and I remembered him

No. Rodney King was a national story, OCA, Lon Mabon and Tom "Don't call me Rick" Metzger was just a local story.

I always wondered why he had that "Santa Monica" song. Kind of lost his Portland cred with that shit.

Yeah, that's why I said "but in Oregon"

Even in Oregon, they weren't as big of a story. You go around today and mention the name and most people in Oregon would be confused/unsure who he was.

"oh, you've never heard of him?"

I liked that song heroin girl when I was young and into heroin

He's a douche nozzle who sings for a shitty band, does there need to be more reason than that?

Ah. I was actually living in LA during the Rodney King riots.
