...amazing, isn't it?

...and that's the problem with googling. If someone tries hard enough they can do a search and find some obscure tidbit to bolster their agenda/narrative...whether it has merit or not.

I don't think it's fair to say this discussion has made light of rape...in my case it's questioned the circumstances...to discuss this issue and be sensitive to the possibilities it's important to point out the extenuating circumstances of the age of the young man and the relationship he had with her....make no mistake...she's guilty of breaking the statutory rape law of California...the drunk cougar doesn't get a pass but rape victims taking large sums of hush money raise questions...I see nothing wrong with addressing those points...if anyone is offended by my personal recollections...that's on them but as I've said...when I read the story I tried to put myself in this guy's shoes at that age and certain things didn't add up to non consensual rape....even with the law as it stands...this case is not your standard no means no rape case from what I've read and if it was....why take the buyout and still have a positive relationship with the lady? Where were the parents? This kid was wealthy and had access to top notch legal council...these topics are fair game for discussion....I'll say one thing...I now do not believe that Asia is credible to speak for the #metoo movement..in fact, she's just boosted Weinstein's defense case.maybe the guy is traumatized for all these years and she killed his career...I'm as open to that being a reality as I am to him this long after the fact taking her to task when the money ran out....as to Bourdain...he took the coward's path in my view...I don't buy that this actress ruined his life...he had options...if anything, alcohol and depression ruined his life...

A lot of the content of this thread is disturbing and disappointing, and is evocative of much of the reason that males rarely report rapes.
from what I've read very few rapes across the board are ever reported....and most rape victims want nothing to do with their abuser....which was not the case with this incident..they've maintained a friendship. How many rape victims continue to profess love for their rapist?

...I doubt you'll get an answer....at least not a straight one.

He and his wife grew apart, as couples can do. He didnt "dump" his child

...what's the difference between he and his wife "drifting apart" vs he and his GF "drifting apart"?

...you're trying way too hard and are letting your personal bias interfere with rational thought.

He sure didn't stick around much....my point is infidelity is something he should be able to handle given his age and experiences and travels....I'd say booze was the biggest factor in his suicide, not some actress he was sleepin' with...he made a choice as an adult with friends and options to cope..he didn't cope..that's his own cowardice...I don't see Bourdain as the victim here. His child is the real victim...she has to live with his suicide for the rest of her life.

He and his GF didn't drift in apart. He was in love with her and he was duped into thinking she was with him. She cheated on him, it became public, they got in a fight and he could't deal with it.

It is his fault for falling in love with what is obviously an evil, manipulative psychopath. Its also his fault for standing behind her feminist crusade. He really did get cucked and his life spiraled out of control. You're right, his death is on him. Even worse, is that he managed to fall in love with an evil bitch.

Yes, he is a dick for killing himself. He clearly was a little beta bitch and got fucked over like beta bitches do.

The creepy thing in all of this is Argento has known this boy since he was 7. Some would say she may have been "grooming" him for the fuck.

This picture is just chilling. She is a manipulator, and probably kept in touch over the years with alterior motives. Some evil lady like Argento manipulating someone like this over a decade, culminating in her fucking him when he's underaged probably makes a ton of psychological scars.

The one time bang that happened is small in comparison for the years of grooming and behavior from Argento.

killing himself was in fact, dumping his child

Well, you could say that he chose his career over his child. Who knows, I don't know their relationship. Some people (not me) argue that we shouldn't judge those that commit suicide though because sometimes they "can't control" themselves.

...yet he's a "hero" of yours.

...twitter...lol.

...And?...what's your point?

Previous point that you had quoted mentioned that Argento and her victim:

"maintained a friendship. How many rape victims continue to profess love for their rapist?"

Argento and Weinstein dated for several years after. If this is the barometer for whether or not rape happened, then we can infer that Weinstein did not rape Argento.

...well no shit, that had already been established. It was clearly a disparagement on the kid.

Well, in regards to the kid, its irrelevant since it was statutory rape. Unless you don't believe in the concept of statutory rape and "as long as if they enjoy it, its not rape"?

I can't even wrap my head around how some of you are seemingly defending this?
nobody is defending Argento...nobody is...that's not the topic of debate that's gone on here...they should arrest her right now...the conversation was about the kid..and in my case, putting myself in his shoes and seeing it from something other than a no means no rape case. do you have an opinion about it or would you rather just snark at people having the discussion? My contention is that the parents of this boy should have refused the buyout and had her arrested immediately after the event or the boy should have given his proclaimed trauma....and my view was that when I was a 17 year old, this would never have been the case...I would not have considered myself raped for sleeping consensually with a woman over 18....if folks have issue with that....so be it. Put it in perspective and have the conversation but calling people rape enablers is sensationalizing the whole topic here. Also I came into the discussion disclaiming that I knew enough to judge the kid...he could be truly a victim and she could very well be a pedophile...I don't know either of them or their work...I do have questions about the circumstances because the article raised flags for me. For some I'm sure it's a cut and dried rape case.

So do you think that the Age of Consent should be lowered?
