Drury will probably end up keeping DQ with the BU connection, which i don't really have an opinion on one way or the other as next year will kind of be the make or break for Quinn. Maybe Messier becomes the President. Wow.
 
Definitely. Could the Rangers do better with a different head coach? Certainly but, I don't think he did anything less than what was asked or expected of him. But to say (by way of firing them) that Gorton and JD didn't do a very good job loading the organization with talent across every facet of the team is just complete lunacy.
 
Never liked Gorton and don’t care about JD. They assembled a good young team but they are too easy to play against. Hey Jeff and JD don’t let the door hit you in the ##%#%%#
 
This is a bad day for the Rangers. No other way to spin it. Need to gather my thoughts first, but it just sucks all around.

If you believe Incarcerated Bob on Twitter - and he has nailed insider Rangers info before, like Zucc's condition and the Igor car accident - JG was a dead man walking after the 2 recent Isles games. The Tony D situation was also not sitting well with Dolan (literally paying the guy to sit home). JD found out, and gave him the "he goes I go" speech. Dolan fired them both immediately.

This honestly does add up - not saying I agree with it just yet, and I'm sure more will come out, but it makes a bit more sense than some reactionary table flip. Gorton, for all the good he has done, has also had some head scratcher moves and left some huge positional and toughness holes open on the roster. Meanwhile JD has been back here about 10 mins and didnt deserve to go out like this.

Big thanks to both of these guys for getting us back on the right track. Hopefully Drury can pick up where they left off and finish building this thing.
 
Great players do not necessarily make great, or even good executives. At least Drury has held an assistant GM position with the Rangers the last few years. But Messier as team President? uhhhhhh, can I see your post-playing resume please?

Drury is GM and Pres. No Messier. Totally unproven and untested.

I appreciate your thoughtful approach, but your first line is the line. No way to spin this as positive. Dolan is a child, you see it with how he runs the Knicks, and the child didn't like something so he fired everyone. That's it.

A franchise icon who has been here less than 2 years. A GM who has done a very good job bringing in a ton of talent for the future. And this is after Dolan himself wrote a letter saying patience and reboot.

He is an impulsive fool - period.
 
Right, as of now he is(Drury) but i think they will split that off being he's new to either position. That would be alot on his plate right away. May not be MM but i don't think Drury stays also as president long term.
 
JD I don't understand for sure. Unless he did say if Jeff goes, I go. I don't see Quinn staying. He sucks. This is pretty weird. I'm sure more will come out. This is NY. Dolan usually leaves the hockey team alone. Considering the young talent assembled on this team I'm not sure why a move was necessary. They deserved a chance to fix more of the team for one more year. Who knows, maybe Dolan wanted Geertsen called up and they said no and he flipped out. Something is definitely off here.
 
Respectfully, I don't know what you are basing that on. Says Chris Drury promoted to President and GM. Not saying he won't add a right hand man, but he is Pres and GM.

Something is off if you try to apply normal rational standards. Something is not off if you operate in the childish impulsive prism of James Dolan NY Knicks/Rangers owner. This makes perfect sense under that prism.

Agreed he normally leaves the Rangers alone, which is why today is even worse. STAY AWAY PLEASE.
 
I know he was as of right now but I'm thinking that's just temp putting in him in both spots. I think he will eventually just be the GM but who knows, maybe he handles both.
 
Incarcerated Bob who is usually right on inside stuff said Dolan wanted to fire Gorton and JD disagreed. Messier said that he would not have built a team like this team is constructed with nobody to answer to a guy like Wilson. Messier as a tough player always had a guy to protect the team. Who knows if Messier wanted JD's job. This entire thing is messed up.
 
To me that shows the disgrace. And good for JD standing up to joke Dolan. This season was not about winning. Gorton and JD 100% deserved to finish off this team this summer, and then next season would be about winning. If we were sitting here 1 year from now with a finesse soft team, no playoffs, and no grit/toughness fire JD, Gorton, and Quinn. But doing it now is a joke.

And again - patience Dolan wrote in his letter. Reboot and some down time. Less than 3 seasons later he fires Gorton, JD in 2, because they didn't win. It is inconsistent and a joke. And promotes Drury to both roles.

Think about your workplace. You align with your boss/owner on strategy, rebuild and patience. Then he comes to you and says your results not good enough you are fired. WAIT what happened to patience and knowing it will take some time???

Crazy.
 
I felt that the team drafted toughness this year with JD on board. I also felt there were some big changes coming next season. I would not be surprised if it went all the way down to Dolan and the coach. There had to be an argument. You don't fire JD and Gorton with 3 games left. That means something really pissed off the owner. Maybe Messier was talking in Dolan's ear all year telling him this team were pussies. I'm not sure anybody is safe on this roster now.
 
Sounds like Dolan on a power trip and not knowing how to see the forest for the trees. It's not like Gorton didn't realize the team needs to get tougher going forward as they take the next steps.
 
Bottom line is if Monday was handled differently they might still be here but it wasnt. Team is too soft and passive and I don’t mean just fighting

Per Brooks of the Post He also says the tough minded approach the Knicks have taken this year may have swayed Dolan as well to not stand pat with a slow rebuild that included a lack of "will" and pushback type of players.

"But the GM — and Davidson — seemed to ignore the meaning of last summer’s beatdown by Carolina under the bubble by not fortifying the roster with grit and strength to support all of the finesse-oriented athletes. Maybe the hierarchy was hamstrung by cap constraints. Maybe they were going to get to it this summer."
 
They definitely drafted tougher this year in the draft I think they should’ve gotten a chance to change the team this summer

Exactly. We need to PLEASE stop trying to apply logic to this. James Dolan is a complete and total a**hole...that's it. Don't try and figure it out or apply logic as to why or create a chain of thinking, JAMES DOLAN!!!

And the comment of a slow rebuild is LAUGHABLE. 3 down seasons, after issuing a letter saying patience and we are rebooting, and you call that slow as the team is ready to soar next season. STOP IT. Some of these NHL teams have stunk for YEARS AND YEARS AND YEARS. Again no logic, this is simply James Dolan being the irrational impulsive POS owner he is. That's it.

I am so angry and down about this. I cannot tell you how much faith I have in JD and Gorton, and he fires them for totally unproven Drury. It is a complete disgrace, and one that I think will totally F the organization, and changes my whole outlook on how close we are, and next season and our cup window.

I am so crushed by this, I really am. I loved JD and Gorton, and now they are both gone. They'll get scooped up quickly, no doubt there.
 
So wait, within 48 hours Tom Wilson has ended our best player season and got our GM and President fired. Wow!
 
I definitely disagree with firing the GM/President. Quinn for me was expendable but that is just my opinion. I think there is some merit to the thought that Dolan has watched a Knick team that most people thought would do well to win 25 games play the way they have with only one real star. And he wasn't even considered a superstar. The Rangers may be rebuilding but they do have 2 of the top players in the league on the team and 2 of the top 3 picks in the last 2 drafts. I could see Quinn being on thin ice, not the President and GM.
 
JD IMO only got fired because he told Dolan he wasn't going to fire Gorton. So basically, it was a if he goes, I go. That kind of deal. Sucks. JD is a good man. He's a smart hockey guy. I said at the trade deadline I was for Lucic here with half retained to run shotgun for the kids for a few years. This would not have happened if he was here. I guarantee that.

I don't disagree with this at all, but the Knicks connection for Dolan, if there is one, shows you how irrational and clueless he is. The Knicks have sucked for YEARS and YEARS and YEARS. Finally they have some good young players, and a very good coach, and they are having a nice season. That's awesome.

The Rangers were really good, made long runs, Dolan sends out a letter saying patience, and we are rebooting to move forward, and then in year 3 he fires everyone? It is irrational and nothing like the Knicks who have sucked for decades essentially.

I do think there is merit to the line of thinking, but it they are no way the same, and once again shows how lost Dolan is.

My take is Dolan is an awful, impulsive, thin skinned, childish owner who didn't like the Wilson situation, doesn't like the results this season, and said okay I want changes and Gorton gone, and good for JD he said F no, and Dolan fired them both. And that's a joke.

It shows Dolan's word means sh*t (rebuild and patience - then fire everyone 2 or 3 years later). It shows he is an impulsive POS. It shows you cannot trust him. That's it.
 
There's something I haven't seen mentioned here. Sather is still senior advisor and has Dolan's ear. I don't think Messier ending up on their radio home today was not by design. Dolan is an ass but I don't know if he decided on all of this himself.
 
I doubt that senile antique Sather had much if anything to do with the Gorton/JD firings. All I heard was the Sather was being 'brought in' as a Sr advisor to Drury. What a blessing...here Chris, let me show how I did it back in MY day (40 years ago).
