At #23, Blazers take Kris Murray.

What's the difference between Keegan and Kris? It seems like his twin is a road map.

We took big swings at #3 and last year #7. This late in the draft all you need are players who can be in an 8 man rotation and the picks will be a huge success.
I don't agree as a general proposition. That's how you get Dante Cunningham and Jeff Pendergraph in the same draft (upperclassmen who never showed hope of being starting-level NBA guys) ... in this case, though, given (as you noted) we'd already gone young with an earlier pick, going safer makes more sense.

Hopefully we go for upside at #43.

Kris is more of a SF where Keegan can play a little PF.

Keegan is better and *way* more athletic, which is saying a lot, because Keegan isn’t exactly a stellar athlete

Both our draft picks can play defense and that's one thing that we needed. Murray can come right in and get minutes right off from the bench.
I think you’ll be disappointed if you think these guys are defender…

What if the Blazers asked Scoot about Leonard Miller, since they were teammates? Just a rando theory.

I mean... it makes sense. An older guy who can potentially be plugged into the rotation at the 3. It reduces our need to keep Knox/Reddish/Thybulle, but it doesn't address our need for size and I don't see a lot of upside.

Just keep Thybulle. It's all I ask lol

Neither of those guys were 8 man rotation players, they were scrubs.

We don't need a star this late, a 5th starter or 6/7th man is fine. Will Murray be that? Maybe or maybe not. I'd think Schmidtz has a reason for drafting him over the upside of Miller though.

I don’t like our roster construction, hope a lot of moves are made

Stats wise at Iowa........Kris looks to have better stats
Keegan:

Kris:

Note even close when they were on the same team. Kris played about half as much and was lower on everything other than, like, personal fouls.

Of course, Kris had a very good junior year after Keegan left:

Which, I think, demonstrates how much an extra year of maturity can help a player. But his junior year still looks like it was worse than Keegan's sophomore year (look at the FG%, the 3pt%... actually across the board he wasn't as good).

They were drafted as four year seniors, thinking they would be mature players that could slide right into the rotation, just like Murray. They were drafted in spite of their lack of upside because they were considered "safe".

That they were wastes of picks is exactly my point. Hopefully Murray isn't one of those kinds of guys.

Watching his video just now I think he looks more like a PF. With a near 7' wing, he just needs to add about 10 lbs and play at about 225.
He has a great 3 pt shot. He just doest look agile enough to guard SFs.

Yeah, convincing Dame lmao.

I just worry we passed on Miller for no reason once Dame leaves.

I was just looking at their last year at Iowa....when each of them was the go-to guy.

Bones wanted Leonard Miller at 23 maybe we can get him in second round?

So far I'm really happy with the draft...Scoot and Kris. Last draft I wanted Keegan. Kris is NBA ready...great rebounder..3 and D PF..what's not to like? avg'd 20.2 his jr year so as a 3 year college guy he's Ant's age.
